"Hello.
I am here for something, I'm not sure what.
I've had private counselling to get through the dangerous times, but now I need a community of support and would like to be that for others.
Diagnosed with PTSD and Bi-polar several years ago, I only accepted the PTSD. Recently, I've come to accept the bi-polar diagnosis as well. This has been very difficult for me.
I grew up with a terri"

Holistic Paradox
I have to bow to the holistic foundation for wellness--diet, exercise, discipline, recreation, social interaction, rest, and spiritual maintenance. I believe these principles of wellness contribute heavily to prevention of disease and recovery from disease.
Many have suggested that the period of time between a normal, balance"

I lost my job 3 and a half months ago. Cutbacks. My severance package is running out and I've been unable to find work.

"Hi all,
So here is my theory, good music (as well as my regular theraputic visits and meds) makes me a happy guy. I am fortunate to have time to explore new music and once in a while go out to hear it from my favorite bands live. Some bands that I enjoy are Yonder Mountain String Band, Donna the Buffalo, and The Band. The Band is an old band, so you can't go out to hear them anymore, but they"

I live in the Tampa Fl area, and I am recovering from Bipolar I disease and alcoholism/addiction.
I started my life in a world which no longer exists during a century which no longer exists. I grew older with a generation of baby boomers who have become the most educated and the most displaced generation in the history of the US--a generation who have now begun to rely on AARP, so"

Bill and Bob had NO IDEA what they had started, yet today it is evident that they had an impact not only on recovering alcoholics, but also they had an impact on virtually every upstart recovery program for many years since. The "why" of this impact lines up with the many "why's" which have both questioned and challenged the so-called twelve-step concept."Written by JR1

Recent research has
demonstrated that certain traits correlate positively with recovery from
trauma. I will describe each of these traits and discuss their relevance to
recovery from the trauma of a bipolar episode and to the maintenance of
feelings of well being in the future.
These observations are based
on studies of individuals who had to face the trauma of being POW's in the Viet
Nam War for up to 8 years and had been subjected to torture and solitary
confinement. I will focus on the particular traits, attitudes or perspectives
which enabled certain soldiers to be most "resilient." John S. Tamerin, M.D.

Medical
experts seem to agree that the pathology associated with bipolar disease and
with addiction is somehow connected to changes in brain chemistry.I have both diseases. From the very outset of my treatment and my journey to recovery, I have suspected (call it an inspiration) that the etiology (origin) of these diseases is something other than chemical in nature. These days most professionals tend to believe in addition that the "etiology" of bipolar disease and of addiction (including alcoholism) is genetic. Well the jury is still out."

"Suicide is a major problem for those with mood disorders. It is estimated that as many as fifteen percent of individuals with untreated Bipolar Disorder commit suicide."
By submitting this admittedly subjective article, I wish to encourage those to whom it may apply to learn to speak openly in the matter of suicidal feelings. Bipolar disease and addiciton/alcholism have plagued me all my life, isolating me from rather than connecting me to others at the most critical and devastating moments.
Whether you have been afflicted with bipolar disease, addiction, alcoholism, or a combination (dual diagnosed), or whether you merely seek a better understanding, it often helps to hear someone's first hand experience.
This is MY experience....

Many children, especially teens, experience mood swings as a normal part of growing up, but when these feelings persist and begin to interfere with a child’s ability to function in daily life, bipolar disorder could be the cause.
