MDJunction to me

Macv"For me, MDjunction has been a place where I can share my experiences
living with the very rare bone disease called Ollier's ( Enchondromatosis ) with the parents of children recently diagnosed. I can help them not to run
into the pitfalls my parents did when I was young, give them a bit of a view
from their child's perspective and simply be there to offer support and
hope to people who are scared and just had their lives upended. I also belong to a chronic pain group and it's been a Godsend to be able to actually
talk with others who understand what I'm dealing with. Besides them helping me through my tough times, I can be there to help them as well. Here too, I can use my years of experience to help others avoid pitfalls and it makes me feel good, gives my life more purpose. MDjunction brings people
together when their suffering, at their darkest and feeling alone in this world and allows some light to be brought back into their lives. HOPE, that's what
MDjunction means to me!

Ozone Treatment in Retinitis Pigmentosa
Written by kdt011999
01 February 2010

Traditionally, patients with Retinitis Pigmentosa(RP) have been told that there is no hope and that peripheral field of vision will continue to progressively constrict until all vision is eventually extinguished.  RP patients anticipate blindness.

A treatment recently developed in Cuba whereby 200 cc's of blood is collected, ozonated, and is reinfused into the patient on 15 consecutive days was found to increase contrast sensitivity, enhance color perception, augment glare recovery, facilitate function in low light, and in some cases expand the visual field. If repeated every 4-6 months it is felt that progression of the disease can be slowed or stabilized.

This article was published in the Ann. Ophthalmology, 1998; 30(3): 161-163
and the author is continuing to provide treatments to his patients here in the US.
Please contact Dr. Marmer for more information if you are interested in this therapy in the United States.

Foundation Fighting Blindness : Vitamin A Treatment for RP
Written by Wiggy
12 December 2009

We are pleased to provide the results of a clinical trial that indicate a specified dose
of vitamin A can potentially save years of sight for some people with retinitis
pigmentosa (RP).  Although this is not a cure, it is a first step in managing RP.
Equally important, this trial shows it is possible to influence the course of RP.
lncluded is a comprehensive list of questions and answers regarding the vitamin A
palmitate treatment.  This six-year, $5 million study was conducted at the Berman-Gund Laboratory for
the Study of Retinal Degenerations of Harvard Medical School with funding by The
Foundation Fighting Blindness and National Eye lnstitute, National lnstitutes of
Health.
