MDJunction to me

grandmasylvia"MDJ has been "a soft place to fall" for me as Dr Phil says. I have this very painful rare disease Dercum's Disease and take comfort in finding others here who share their knowledge and compassion. Many
members have helped me just by understanding my anguish and validating
my pain. We are working together to encourage research toward a cure.

USPSTF recommends AGAINST routine PSA for asymptomatic men
Written by MsSnick24
29 May 2012

Posted: 5/22/2012, 4:00 p.m. -- The AAFP is recommending against performing prostate-specific antigen (PSA)-based screening for prostate cancer in asymptomatic men, a position that is in line with a final recommendation from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) that was published May 22 in the Annals of Internal Medicine. The recommendation applies to asymptomatic men in the general U.S. population, regardless of age, but does not include the use of the PSA test for surveillance after diagnosis or treatment of prostate cancer.

USPSTF Recommendation Could Benefit PCA3 Test

DiagnoCure’s PCA3 test received FDA approval in February 2012 to assess the risk of prostate cancer in men following a prior negative biopsy.  The FDA-approved test, Progensa PCA3, is marketed by Gen-Probe (GPRO) and could offer a better alternative to PSA testing.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester, or CAPE, is a compound isolated from honeybee hive propolis, the resin used by bees to patch up holes in hives.

NIH Panel Discusses Active Surveillance for Prostate Cancer
Written by MsSnick24
03 February 2012
December 8, 2011 (Bethesda, Maryland) — "Active surveillance has emerged as a viable option that should be offered to low-risk patients" with prostate cancer, a 14-member independent panel of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) concluded yesterday. Panelists stated that "strong consideration should be given to removing the anxiety-provoking term 'cancer' for this condition."  The NIH convened a State-of-the-Science Conference this week to assess evidence on the role of active surveillance in managing localized prostate cancer. Members heard experts address changes in the patient population over the past 30 years, protocols for active surveillance, and factors affecting patient choices in following up after a positive biopsy finding.  Concluded Dr. Ganz, "We now have an NIH-vetted document that describes active surveillance as a reasonable approach to the management of localized prostate cancer."
