Hi, my name is Joy. I joined MDJunction to support people as well as get support. I'm fairly stable and support people for the most part here, but like everyone else, I do have my ups and downs. I hope to help as many people as I can by giving them support, hope, and reassurance.
I was diagnosed bipolar type 2 in 2009. I was previously diagnosed with depression in 1999. I have suffered from bipolar since a young age, even though I was not diagnosed yet. We grew up poor and I had to grow up really fast. I never knew that I acted differently than anyone else, it was the "norm" for me and no one thought anything of it growing up. I wish that someone would have.
I was actually happy to be diagnosed because it explained why I felt the way I have all of my life. The questions were answered and I had a name to put on it.
My mother was schizophrenic. She heard and saw things that weren't there. She believed she was part of a conspiracy and that she was controlled by "them" through a micro-chip in her body. She was medicated at one time, but later on, she did not take her medications. She passed away in 2000 from liver cancer.
I am very happy to be a part of this group. Since I have bipolar, I don't have many friends and I've found a lot of friends here on this site. I look forward to meeting the members and helping out any way I am able to. Feel free to message me anytime and I will help as best I can.
Not being a doctor, I have the same questions and experiences as many here just as well as many questions about this illness. I look forward to getting to know everyone. Thanks for reading. |
