"I serve as Group Leader for 3 MDJunction groups. Just before last Thanksgiving I moved
my base of operations from the Bronx to Manhattan in New York City, USA. I was told
before the move my internet connection would be up and running within maybe 3 weeks
of the move.
Well, after much struggle, systems reevaluation, redesign, headaches and mumbling and hair tearing
with frustrations, it looks like somewhere around April 26th, 2012, I will be back online and on the web!!
Please, I ask all MDJ members to pray, wish, knock on wood, cross fingers and toes, sing a song, whistle a tune, write a poem,
and such and so on.
Well then, using whatever devotion, custom, or tradition works for you, HELP ME RETURN to
our beloved MDJunction.
I've missed everyone so very, very much.
Happy April, and I send you the most excellent wishes for whatever holidays you choose to celebrate!!
Always yours,
Elyas Fraenkel Isaacs

"With superhuman efforts I've been suffering through a geographic move and confounding internet upgrade. I am working on my Dell Inspiron Mini-10 netbook right now in MacDonald's with coffee. Well, I called the US Army and the Office of Naval Research and, lo and behold, it seems I will be back up and running on the internet next Tuesday. Or we may call NASA and all go to the moon or Mars!! I say, why not?? Silly me . ... Hope to see all my great and wonderful MDJ folks real soon; I've missed you all so much. AOK, Over and Take It To The Limit!!

"We welcome the month of October. For all of us here in the northern world - here it comes; winter's just around the corner. I am a Miss Snow from the North. So that's a good thing for me. But - most people seem to prefer the warmer days - that's coming for our South people like our Peru and New Zealand friends. So, maybe it's time for the chill-phobic Northers to make some new Souther friends!!
I am having a horrible week - sometimes that happens to us all!!
But - I send a great big {{{{HUG}}}} to all anyway - that's what friends are for - to make you smile when no one else will.
So - CHEERFUL SMILES and that HUG to all my friends. May your coming week be very, very special!! Love,
Catherine

"We still want a few more group leaders, but they have to prove themselves by writing on the forum. The co-leaders will pick who we believe are truly helpful. That said, those who are in their own world, as I seem to be of late, know that someone cares, and space is needed just as gathering with others at other times. hugs all."

"Hi, members!! I am sorry have need to write this - but's it's important!! If you ever come to New York City and need mental health - or retardation - services, DO NOT use those of an organization called - THE NEW YORK CITY FEDERATION FOR MH, MR, and Alcoholism SERVICES. It is a scam!!
It is run by a woman who lives on half truths and lies. She is ignorant and will believe anything about anybody. AND - she will use any form of communication to spread lies and slander if it suits her personal agenda.
The home webpage for this group is -
http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/fed/fed.shtml

The woman - as you can see on that page - is -
Angela Cerio at angelacerio@aol.com

Don't even try to ask this woman for help or even information. She is completely unreliable.

Short story - please read:
In about 1994, as part of attending a community psycho-educational program, I was asked by some other attendees to organize an independent support group for them - and me - within the program. The kind folks who ran the program were very happy we wanted to do that and provided sponsorship by giving us meeting space and time from our clinic program day. Fast forward -
At one of our next weekly meetings a "Director" from the New York State
Office of Mental Health - the statewide agency regulating mental health care services all over New York State - appears and wants to meet me and attend our meeting. I was totally surprised but very honored. She congratulated me on forming the independent support group.
At the meeting end the "Director" met with me personally. She requested if I wished that I join and attend the meetings of a Manhattan based MH consumers' "coalition" and also those of the Brooklyn Mental Health
Council. I joined both and began attending their monthly meetings.
Time passed -
I discovered the "coalition" was only really sort of a "coffee klatch clique" of
"old buddies" who got together to drink - coffee - and talk about how bad life was. It didn't really advance serious issues and events to support and advocate for competent and quality mental health care and services. Since the "Director", an employee of the NYS Office of Mental Health, had asked me to attend the meetings and try to help the group, I did so for about a year and a half. Then - I stopped as I recognized the group was not going to really do much of anything.
I began attending meetings about mental health issues worldwide with two groups at the United Nations. That was a better use of my time and skills.
We wrote documents eventually presented to the UN General Assembly via the annual, global UN/DPI conferences - 1999, 2000, and 2001. There home webpage is at:
http://www.mentalhealthngo.org/
Check out the mission statement! I joined a working group on refugees and PTSD as I found it connected with my homelessness experiences. Writing UN "legislation" for such needs was extremely easy for me. I just offered what
I knew directly from experience!!
OK - fast forward again to today. I know of a couple of mental health difficulties.
So - I discovered that the Bronx Mental Health Council - each NYC neighborhood -
Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and so on - has such a council.
My difficulties were (1) about 25 mentally retarded individuals who are being
abused, and (2) about 75 mentally ill older people who are being neglected.
I emailed this Angela Cerio about these poor people who need help.
She emailed me back with a response that I "had hijacked the coalition".
How do you "hijack" something that you cease connection with???
Recall - I just stopped going to the "coalition" meetings as I wanted to put my time and energies into more helpful and useful to others work.
Conclusion - this federation has no interest in helping poor people with real problems and issues. This Angela Cerio doesn't even look into the truth and facts of "what happened". She lives in a world of lies, slander, and
misinformation. She has not one care for disabled people who are being abused and neglected.
Finally, if you come to New York City avoid this Federation thing. Go to the New York City Health Department Commissioner's office. Or - contact the New York State Office of Mental Health or Department of Health. You will find helpful and caring persons at both these places - just Google the names. And all their various linking pages will show up!!
You all know me as your group leader. I do my very best to give you useful and reliable information - you all know that!! So - if you ever
run into this good sounding "Federation", flip to some other web resource. Don't even read their stuff; it's a big waste of time. THE WHOLE THING
IS JUST A BIG SCAM!!
Thanks all. I send my best out to you all for a great September season.

"Hi everyone! MY {{HUG}} is late this month for several reasons. First, I was on "vacation" until August 15th!! I don't really get to go anywhere - leave my rehab care center - but I do "take off" from most of all my scheduled and "on-call" volunteer jobs or at least the ones that are most like M-F and 9-5 jobs. And why I take July is a good question.
At the care center I am what is called "The Birthday Lady". Almost 2 years ago I started as a volunteer providing personal happy birthday wishes to all the individual residents at my care center.
What happens - I receive an alphabetical list of all the residents' name and their birth months. I then organize it by month and find out on what floor everyone lives. Then...I make individual personlized birthday cards - name on front, maybe monthly birth-stone/flower or other personal like picture and clip arts on front, and inside a personal birthday poem - I am the Poetry Club leader, too, by the way!!
I organize all each specific month's birthday people into 3 groups. And for 3 Fridays each month I am "The Birthday Lady". I make the personal cards, I make "birthday medallions" for each birthday person's luncheon tray to accompany their "edible birthday treat" usually an ice cream cup or pudding delight, I deliver the list of birthday folks and the medallions to dietary management for appropriate placement and "edible treats" assignment, and early on birthday morning I make lists of that day's birthday people and deliver them to the floors I will be visiting later that day.
About an hour before lunch I go to the floors where my birthday people are AND give out the birthday cards. If the birthday person is available and interested, I with those in the floor dayrooms/dining rooms all sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY and wish the birthday people well - one by one. Everyone gets a personal HAPPY BIRTHDAY wish(if they want, we don't force this....). And, I'm proud to say we(I) cover the English, of
