| A little about me: | I am 42 and I immigrated here from Romania. My PTSD is of a different kind: is very much related to the things that I have witnessed under the Romanian communist regime (including some attrocities during the Romanian revolution of 1989) and then having to be separated from my daughter for 2 1/2 years during my process of immigrating here. She was 2 when I left and 4 1/2 when we finally reunited in the USA. I still have nightmares, flashbacks, avoidant behaviors and have been in therapy for the past 3 years. It is helping, but I came to believe that I have to live with this and kind of integrate it as a part of my life. Other than that, I am pretty functional: I have a good job, I am a good mother and wife, I have a group of close friends that I trust and who are very nice and kind and I am a Doctoral student in Social Studies. However, I am dying inside from time to time and when that happens, I don't know what to do. |
