Blog: My Dercum's Story
A little about me: Hi! I am 67 and live in central Ohio. I retired from a major insurance company after 23 years working as a customer service trainer and overpayment recovery specialist.

I have had DD for at least 50 years but was only diagnosed 7years ago. I had previously been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. At the present time there is no cure for DD. I use every palliative measure I can think of to make it through the chronic pain. My DD has progressed steadily and now I am pretty much an invalid from the DD combined with diabetes and degenerative arthritis. Dr Karen Herbst is doing research on fat disorders and I have hope for the future that a cure will be found. I have a wonderful husband, two children and 4 grandchildren so I have a lot to make me happy. I love life despite the pain and other manifestations of DD. I want very much to be of help to all of my fellow sufferers.

We are committed to actions that will bring the diagnosis of Dercum's Disease to the attention of the medical community and the general public. Dercum's is considered a rare disease but I believe that it is really just under diagnosed. We are here to help those who need to obtain a diagnosis and to pass on our hard-gained knowledge. We hope to help lessen the impact of this disease on our lives. Each group member is precious to me.

Enjoy Life! Hugs, Grandma Sylvia
