A little about me: I have FMS, Type 2 Diabetes, Autonomic Neuropathy, Peripheral Neuropathy, Motor Neuropathy with R. foot drop, Asthma, Migraine Headaches (including Complicated Migraines), Degenerative Disk Disease, Anxiety, Depression.

I'm 40 years old. Have been totally disabled for 8 years. I live with my parents; Mom also suffers from FMS, degenerative disk disease, debilative chronic back and hip pain and type 2 diabetes.

My father is in the later stages of alzheimers disease. I am his primary caregiver. He attends adult day care 4 days per week. This has been very helpful for us.

At one time I used an electric w/c and walker for mobility, but I am getting stronger. I have learned to balance activity and rest. I still need the electric w/c for long distances.

I have a brother and sister in law that live about 30 miles away. I have a nephew in the Army who may soon be returning to Afghanistan for a 2nd tour and a 13 y/o niece.

My past is pretty varied: I worked as a preschool teacher, Bible minister, recreational caregiver and later a behavioral technician for the developmentally disabled, and finally as a registered nurse; first in ICCU, and then on an acute psych floor. I was working on the psych floor when I finally had to quit working.

It was because of my severe asthma that I had to quit work. The other issues soon followed as a result of long term steroid use...which led to diabetes...and all of it's complications. The FMS began around the time I was really trying to make it thru' nursing school, while fighting the asthma attacks and hospitalizations.

I am better than I was at age 32 when I was so bad I had to be in a nursing home for rehabilitation for about 7 weeks.

It it really hard to see my parents getting older. It's especially hard to see my Mom suffer with such pain as she is only 65 and should be enjoying her retirement years. She is in bed most of the time. She had surgery last June to help her back, but the pain persists.

We have 2 furry feline companion indoors and one dog outside. "Teddi" was Dad's dog but has become my responsibility now.

Where do I start?
I am happy to have found a wonderful group of people who understand how I feel in all the groups I belong to except for the Dysautonomia group...I only have one friend there...she seems to be the only active member right now.

Everyone here is so kind and supportive. It is a wonderful source of support! I'm so glad I found this site. Thanks to everyone for helping me out!
