MDJunction to me

Hazeldee"MDJunction means that I no longer have to feel like I am the only person in
the world with pericarditis. It means that I can talk to others who know
how stressful and how painful having pericarditis can be. It means that I
connect with others to discuss treatments that have or haven't worked for us, so that we have a leg to stand on. I think that having my friends at
MDJunction has allowed me to better mentally and emotionally process my
diagnosis and what it means to me. I feel so lucky to have this community
available to me. I use MDJunction as a way to use my experience to help
others. Reaching out to help others is the only solace I have found since
being diagnosed with pericarditis.

A little about me: I am a 24yr old who was diagnosed with Lyme in November 2007. I never saw a tick or a rash, so I am not sure exactly when I was bit. I started experiencing terrible headaches, which I figured were stress related or from being overworked. I decided to go to my GP, who assumed I was experiencing tension headaches. However, he did blood work and my tests came back positive for Lyme.

I was then put on a month of Amoxicillin and told me to come back only if I was still experiencing symptoms. Well, I actually felt pretty much 100% back to normal after that month.

Then in October 2008 the headaches started reappearing. I felt exactly like I had a year ago, so decided to make another appointment with my GP. He told me how it was “highly unlikely” that the Lyme would have came back because of how “barely positive” my tests were back in Nov ’07. I basically had to beg him to do blood work again, and to his amazement the Western Blot came back “positive active”. He then put me on a month of Doxycyline , which did not agree with me, so I was then put on another month of Amoxicillin. I felt 0% better, but realized my GP was not willing to do much more for me.

I finally decided to make an appt with a Lyme Literate Internal Medicine doctor, who tested me through Igenix labs. I came back positive for Lyme and one co-infection, which my family doctor had never tested for. Since started to see my Lyme doctor, I’ve been on various types of antibiotics, including Bactrim, Rifampin, Plaquenil, and now currently Flagyl and Adoxa Doxy. I’m beginning to get very frustrated and depressed lately because I haven’t seen a significant change in my symptoms. I’m tired of being tired, of being depressed, and just all together not feeling like myself. I just want my life back!
