A little about me: I made a mistake in the wording of my ribbon dedicated to my sister. She was 35 at the time when she passed away and she was 28 when diagnosed. She donated her remains for cancer research on March 19, 2008 through Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.

I am 46 and live in a small, but growing town in the Panhandle of Florida called Crestview. It is close to Destin and Pensacola. I have been married for 26 years and have one son who will be 26 this December. We are raising my niece who is 11. Her mother died of cancer this past March, 2008. We are in the process of selling our home to buy my mother-in-law's house. Her husband passed 6 years ago and we now live with her to assist her in her old age although sometimes she actually takes care of us instead. I work full time for an engineering and surveying firm and my husband is a probation officer with the State of Florida. His case load mainly consists of sexual offenders. Talk about stress we have it, but most days we deal with it.

Our son is in rehab trying to recover from prescription drug abuse so life is quite surreal. I never thought it would happen to us as most parents don't. My worst fear was having to identify his body in a morgue. Thank God it did not come to that. He ended up getting in trouble with the law and almost went to prison, but has grown from the experience.

It's ironic that my husband's job has hit so close to home because my son's drug abuse problem stems from being sexually abused as a child by his grandfather who has since passed away. I felt horrible for not seeing it, but people like that are good at hiding their sick ways. It has hurt our family, but we are standing by our son. It has made us all stronger and given us a voice to help others.

I just had a complete hystorectomy Feb 19, 2008. At first I felt great for the first two weeks, but as the months go by I feel like I am falling down a hill. I started having headaches everyday after six weeks and ended up having what I thought was a seizure in June of this year. After a hundred tests they found nothing. So I went to a Chiropracter and that seemed to help. I started taking natural supplements and it seemed like things were looking up. Then out of no where comes these bouts of almost panic attacks were my nerves wind up tighter than a drum and I can barely make it out of bed. I can't stand being around people during this time or the phone ringing. When it is over I am fine, but it is really bad for me and my family when I am going through this. I am confused by it to say the least.

a HugYou are special and deserve to be treated as such. Never allow anyone to tell you any different. For if they do, then they do not deserve to know you, much less have the right to call you a friend.
