|A little about me:||Personal
My name is Willo; I'm 31, live in beautiful Western Washington State, and am chronically ill with Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections. (more about my health below)
I've been divorced for over 5 years -- my ex raped me when I had been too sick to satisfy his 'needs' for much of 2004. Luckily I have a very supportive network of family and friends.. that, along with a therapist and lots of talking saw me through that winter into a much better state of mind.
I'm a Sagittarius, which means I'm stubborn, but never bored. :)
In 1998 I went on a camping/canoeing trip in Indiana and Illinois down the Wabash River. By the end of the trip (2 1/2 weeks later) I had a growing bull's eye rash on my inner left thigh. It took me 3 years to get a clinical diagnosis of Lyme Borreliosis and possible co-infections, a further 2 years after that to save up for western blot and other testing (positive!) ..when all was said and done I went undertreated for 8 years and was experiencing the multisystemic problems of Chronic Lyme disease.
In 2006 I found a wonderful doctor about 90 minutes away from me who knows about Lyme and was a member of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS). I've been on the ILADS' treatment regimen for 6 years (as of summer, 2012). I do well when on Tx, but relapse fast when not on abx.
I'm 31 years old and moved back in with my parents when I applied for disability at 23. Besides being a Lyme Advocate and the leader of the online support group for people affected by Lyme in WA State (http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/WALDUC-Support/), I'm a minister ordained by the Universal Life Church (it's non-denominal) and I believe that a strong conviction in faith -- I call myself an inter-faith pagan who belongs to the 'Church of Self-Responsibility' -- has helped me fight all these years.
I'm also a singer known in South Puget Sound. I've been performing on stage since the age of 3.. have never known what stage-fright is. :)
I don't know how each day will go until I wake up and face it, but I know lots of us are in the same boat. I was happy to find this little community.. it has a unique feel to it and I look forward to meeting the folks here!
|Wishing you greetings of health, happiness and success on this Thanksgiving and always.
