A little about me: I have a 20 year old daughter who was diagnosed with Chronic Epstein Barr. This is her third year for being sick and hospitalized, they did a bone marrow biopsy to make sure she was cancer free and thankfully she was cancer free.

I have been a nurse for 20 years and have seen the effects of illness on people but my true struggle has been with my daughter as she has many times been isolated from friends, school, activities and emotionally it truly took it's toll at times.

We live in Michigan and have a difficult time finding Dr.'s who understand her illness, much less her treatment.

My daughter has been through all types of tests including a test for Celiac and her bone marrow biopsy. It has been difficult for her as well as myself, we were told at one point she had an "eating disorder", "anorexia" to be exact and as her mother I knew it was untrue, I knew something was WRONG otherwise (this was the third year we were going through this). Finally after numerous trips to the emergency room we had a female pediatrician that found (my daughter)diagnosis.
I had never given up as I knew that I knew that I knew the Dr.'s were wrong and she wasn't just "lazy" unmotivated she was SICK. I want a chance to say this, if you are a parent and you KNOW there is SOMETHING wrong...go with your gut and do not give up keep searching until you have the answer.

"In August this past summer my mother was diagnosed with Melanoma on the lower leg. She had surgery and a skin graft and is doing pretty well. She was never sick and had a mole that was black and went to the Dr. for something else and the Dr. asked what that was. My mother left there and literally went straight to a dermatologist, sure enough it was cancer...she is surviving the ordeal, but we must take warning to things that do not seem right. My mom knew it did not look good but put off going to the Dr. for two years...so let it be a lesson to us all."

"This is to my father who passed from COPD after fighting it for 10 years. What a great man an inspiration!October this past year was tough but the ribbons to you dad!! I support you in this fight of COPD"
