MDJunction to me

tomboykimi"What MD Junction means to me is a place where i can feel like im not alone. As someone with something as rare as hydrocephalus, it feels like im the only one in the world with it. When i came to MD, its like everyone has it. It doesnt feel like im alone. And that people need to hold up a sign to say what i have, because people know. And they understand. I can get questions answered from people who have been through it rather than from doctors or people who only can tell you from a physical standpoint. THat is what MD junction means to me." A little about me: My husband and I feed many species of birds. The hummingbirds sit on my finger to feed if I am very patient and quiet. We enjoy living and walking in the woods where we live.

My cat, Maxine, was living as a feral in the woods behind our house. I tamed her, and now she has changed from a wild cat to a sweet lap kitty.

I have Exfoliative Dermatitis also known as Erythroderma (ED), a rare autoimmune disease that attacks the skin and affects my quality of life greatly. It makes me very ill at times. Other symptoms, besides the red, painful skin are similar to those of Fibromyalgia or Lupus. I also have Type 2 Diabetes, IBS, and arterial spasms (these are all under good control).

These diseases are not who I am. I will not be defined by my illness. The first response I get from strangers, is a question about my red skin. I find that if I joke about it, everyone can laugh, and then move on to a normal conversation. I like to say I am an authentic red-neck woman. If I am at ease with my appearance, others readily accept me as I am.

There is no cure for ED. For seventeen years, I have been fighting it through research, nutrition, and exercise. Remission is a possibilty, but becomes more remote with each passing year.

MDJ has lots of info and members ready to share experiences and give a word of encouragement. I'm so glad I found this site!
