MDJunction to me

suebaby41"I was recently diagnosed with Recurrent Breast Cancer In The Chest
Wall. I would not be able to handle it as well as I am without the
help of my MDJunction friends. It just proves to me that there are
lots of good people in this world and I am happy to be involved with
MDJunction who seems to have most of them.

A little about me: My mother has suffered from manic depression for the last 24 years. We aren't talking sad and crying, not sleeping and yelling type manic depression. We are talking full on delusional, money spending, hearing voices, talking to herself, waiting for Jesus to land his space ship on our house manic depression.

This is a disease my mother has had virtually my entire life. I have accepted it, and she has maintained a normal life until recently when she has slipped back towards the abyss that is the disease.

My main problem with the disease isn't the disease itself, I know it and understand it. What I don't get is the mental health system. Unless you are waiving a knife threatening to harm yourself or someone else you are deemed A-OK in the mental health world. The problem is most mentally ill people are capable of seeking help but if they don't get it on there own they shall remain sick. It's frustrating. I know exactly what is wrong with my mother but I can't force her to be well (although she is totally delusional and has ABSOLUTELY no idea what's going on), but in the mean time my family bears the burden of the disease.
