A little about me: I'm the reluctant survivor of an ambush. It had been planned and executed over several years. But none of us, neither I nor the medical staff (an overly generous title), saw the trees through the wind.

My poor metaphors describe a massive, bilateral pulmonary embolism which occured in May of 06. It was horrific. I shouldn't be here. It was game over according to the university medical hospital docs. But here I am. With much "collateral damage". I spend vast amounts of time scheduling my continued survival with various docs.

This is one of the reasons I hope to join your forum. People who understand the isolating nature of CP and serious illness are unique in their ability to empathize and provide solid feedback. I spend too much time alone these days. A group of like minded friends would improve my hours.

Also, prior to the PE invasion, I was medically and legally disabled by multiple spinal/neurological issues. The old "insult to injury" routine. I seem to have a lot on my hands many days. Your group will and has already helped reudce the load.

It became nearly impossible to drag my miserable self around in '07. Fist, my doc believed I may have lymphoma, based upon a special CT scan. So, knowing the risks for an old dog lik me in surgery, and after consulting four docs I respected, I went ahead with the biopsy surgery. It was the unanimous opinion. The operation went okay and several large lymph nodes were removed from the base of my abdomen/upper thigh region. Ended up back in the hospital a week later with massive amounts of lymph fluid flowing from my incision. IV antibiotics and eventually a device called a "wound vac" was attached to the incison. Went home, tended to and lugged that miserable thing around for two months. Then, with the wound nearly healed, I contractd MRSA from the hospital stay... Another hosp stay, then home health nurses administering IV antibiotics via a "PIC" line. Survived again. Whew!

When I was indescibably ready for a full recovery, another MRSA infection occured on my right foot. No idea how it happened. After several (3, I think) courses of extremely strong oral antibiotics, and weekly trips to a "wound center" for 5 weeks, the infernal infection was defeated. At least for now. It damaged more nerves in my foot and I receive sharp, burning sensations on a regular basis. Could have been much worse, though, since for awhile they were discussing the possibility of amputating part of my foot!!

Another reason I am interested in learning about your group is that I may share experiences with others which might, with a bit of luck, be beneficial to someone.

That's probably way more than you needed or wanted to know.

Thank you for your consideration.

Warmest Regards,

Reluctant Survivor
