| A little about me: | Surgery should be your last resort. The faulty implant disaster continues to this day. Read the latest GAO report on implants. I also ask that you all write congress and demand the truth about silicone. Ask why the 1992 federally sealed records are not released if silicone is safe. I am a part of the Faulty TMJ Implant Disaster and also feel like a smoking gun. October of 1984, Dr. Clyde H. Wilkes removed my left disc and replaced it with Silastic NRV-HP# Missing. This is a Dow Corning implant. In 1982 Dr. Wilkes knew these implants were failing and mentioned to only leave them in for 2-3 months. Two years after this statement, Dr. Wilkes chose to leave my implant in for 5 months and it was ground through. He denied my implant was in for 5 months and told me I better not defame his character! I sent him my medical records that clearly state 5 months. In 1986 the (Wilkes Design) with Dow Corning came in to play and as you can see in the 1992 Congressional Hearings they lied about how long the implant was to be put in and also had labeling problems. As we know Vitek implants were failing back in 1982 and the FDA went in a bulldozed Nomad to the ground. Remember their implant was compared to silastic which Dr. Wilkes and Dow Corning already knew were failing so in TRUTH, Vitek never really had a fair chance. Why wasn't Dow Corning bulldozed to the ground? They are dismissing survivors because silastic was spelled wrong on their medical records. You say that Dow Corning Voluntarily bowed out...but they really were aftraid of getting caught. By the Congressional Hearings there are federally sealed documents pertaining to our implants. If silicone is safe and used today, why not release these documents for we the victors! Teflon has been proved to be bad and my understanding is that teflon is in silicone. Consumers now throw out their teflon and low and behold an new silicone bakeware comes along. Dow Corning knew before I was born that what they placed 3mm from my brain was deadly. I was used for experimental purposes without my knowledge or consent. My MRI is truly ugly and I am in fear for what is ahead with little information given to my fellow victors. The University of Minnesota was eager to study me and wants my tissue but can not give me any information on what they have learned. The AAOMS is a joke. They either ignore you...tell you never to have another surgery...and one with little information was ready to put an $80,000 implant in me. I believe these federally sealed documents should be released and that Dr. Clyde H. Wilkes and Dow Corning should be prosecuted for perjury. The hospital nor Dr. Wilkes can or will tell me how my implant from Dow Corning got to Methodist Hospital to then the surgery room and into Dr. Wilkes hand and low and behold....my jaw joint. I was never notified by either the hospital or Dr. Wilkes as the government informed them to do. I would have more rights if I had had a defective car seat placed in my jaw joint! I am seeking honesty and the truth for the good of all mankind. If I showed you the pile of letters and responses from many government agencies you would be dumb founded. I believe we implant victors desereve the truth and I am ready to come stand on the steps of my Supreme Court with the heavy cross I bear on my shoulders if this is God's will. Please help our special group of loving hearts that have been join together in this club, not by choice but because God knew we could handle it. Some of my friends are dying...we are all afraid and left in the dark. By the grace of God I am surviving. May God Love, Bless, and Keep YOU Always Love, Ruthie |

My friends with Vitek and Silastic Silicone implants could sure use your writing abilities. There is really no TMJ Specialist. You are your best doctor. Be Wise and Beware. How come Teflon has been proven bad for you and taken off the market? And now there is a new silicone bakeware out there? All Silicone contains teflon. Are we all being played for fools?
