A little about me: I am a 38 year old mother of 3 boys. One of my twin boys is Autistic. Life is hard and I have quit my job to devote time to all my children. My husband is very supportive but like me is having a hard time dealing with this.

Nicholas has been receiving services since he was 8 months old. He currently is 3 yrs old and is in an Autistic pre-school class. We have seen positive changes like major eye contact but is still not speaking. He is a very laid back child that can easily get lost in the mix of activity.

My ultimate goal in life is that he and his brothers are happy to whatever extent they can be then and only then will I have successfully completed my stay here on this earth.

I am looking for support other than my family who truly can understand what our lives are like. I have a lot to learn from others and I hope I can get that in this support group.

Hi LoriMD. Thanks for the hug. It's been a long week. Just wanted to say Hi. Good to hear from another buckeye. My best childhood friend went to undergrad at OU. I've spent a few Halloweens and long weekends there visiting. It's a beautiful campus. I went to OSU for most of my undergrad and finished thru grad school at Univ. of Findlay. Anyway, good to hear from you. I hope you are well! Feel free to email any time. Take care!

Good for you Lori! I am a teacher of children with special needs. I have had several children in my classroom over these 1st four years of my career who are on the spectrum. I am saddened that I have to send one of them to the middle school next year. I have valued his presence and offerings to our classroom so much over the past two-1/2 years and will miss him very much. I can't imagine our family of learners without him next year. I have a great respect for his family and know in my heart that his mother will always let us know how he is doing. In addition to my classroom situation I also have two 1st cousins (not related to each other as siblings) who are both married and each have a child on the spectrum which has given me the inspiration to teach in the environment in which I teach. I love my job! I have seen many parents and families in your situation struggle with school districts and pray that you'll find the right match out there. There are a few of us who really do go to bat for our kids. Hang in there! Have a great weekend!
