Hunter's Story
2009 is when strange things started to happen. Hunter woke up on one cold december day and he could not extend his fingers out all the way and he complained of stiffness in most MAJOR joints. At the time I didn't think of it as anything. Boy, was I wrong. More and more symptoms started popping up and he kept having joint pains (worse in the mornings and on cold days). Took him to the Doctor the following February and he tested positive for strep, so they put him on an antibiotic. Went back in 10 days and he still tested positive for strep and was still having joint pain. They put him on a stronger antibiotic. Throughout a 2 year span he was he kept testing positive for strep (without sore throat) and they treated him with very strong antibiotics. Eventually his pediatrician put him on ampecillian (an injection in his legs, once a month). This is where his pediatrician diagnosed him with strep arthritis. Blood work was done and repeated throughout the 2 years as well. Strep did not show up in his bloodwork. ANA came back positive one time and then negative the next time. He is very sensitive to sun light and flashes and gets tired very easily. He is such an energetic boy but he doesnt play for a long amount of time anymore. He has not grown. He seems depressed and is very emotional. Gets upset VERY easy even over simple things. Some days are better than others. He was on naproxen for a while and they just switched him to Meloxicam. He also complains daily on stomach pains. December 2nd of 2011 we decided to have his tonsils and adnoids taken out to elemenate a hideout place for strep.

Now Hunter is more emotional on somedays. He lays down during class. He cant get comfortable in his seat. His handwriting is AWFUL now. Some nights he doesnt sleep well (the days that he has had a lot of pain). He lvoes to take VERY hot showers and sleep with his heating blanket on high. He said it makes his joints feel better. Recently he has had a red rash on cheeks that are there speratically. There is no rhyme or reason to it but I have noticed when he complains of pain more, is when the rash is more noticable. We are going to Duke University next Monday to see a rheumatologist. We hope to get some answers for my little guy. I sure want to see him back to himself again.
