A little about me: I'm a married mother of 4 kids ages 10-16 and am currently employed as a nurse case manager in a psychiatric assistant living facility.
As a child I was diagnosed with ADHD and OCD. It wasn't until after I had my 4th child that I was diagnosed with PTSD and Bipolar in addition to the ADHD.

Usually people turn out the way they are expected to be. If a parent tells a child you can't, then that child will be unable to do that particular task. I've seen that numerous times. I, however, refused to have that affect my life. As a teen my mother didn't believe in me. Every time there was a job opportunity she sabotaged it. She told me I'll make a horrible preschool teacher. During the summer in high school when all my classmates were either working or in camp I was at home alone doing absolutely nothing because my mother refused to let me accept a job I could've had. It was the summer I desperately wanted to commit suicide. During 12th grade I didn't ask my mother permission and found a job with a special needs child one on one. It was 5 days a week after school for 2 hours and 4 hours in the weekend. I went to the child's house and I invited her to my house when my mother was at work. She became very attached to me. It wasn't easy but it gave me alot of satisfaction. She was a 12 year old girl with tantrums. I taught her how to write her name, get dressed on her own, and brush her hair.

Before I started nursing school My husband and his sister were against it. My family was out of the picture. My husband refused to support me because his sister decided that I'm crazy and I'll fail miserably. I don't know were I got my courage but I decided that I won't take no for an answer. I worked very hard. I didn't let anything get in the way. It was excruciating. I studied and worked very hard through nursing school and didn't do anything else. My whole life revolved around school. I had no choice. Failing was not an option. I HAD to do much more than pass. I had to pass with honors. Because I had to show them all. All those that said I'll fail. They should see how good I'm at it. Even more so I had to prove it to myself that I'm very capable. After I passed every course in the first semester with an "A" my husband realized that I'll be able to make some money. So that's when he became very supportive.
During my pinning ceremony- graduation for nurses- I received an award from Good Samaritan Hospital "for excellence in the theory and practice of nursing" (I did a clinical round as a nursing student in Good Sam Hosp.) My husband told me I surprised him. He had no idea...

So here it is all of us!! Prove everyone wrong! Do what you can and let everyone else say what they want.
