MDJunction - People Helping People

MDJunction to me

Macv"For me, MDjunction has been a place where I can share my experiences
living with the very rare bone disease called Ollier's ( Enchondromatosis ) with the parents of children recently diagnosed. I can help them not to run
into the pitfalls my parents did when I was young, give them a bit of a view
from their child's perspective and simply be there to offer support and
hope to people who are scared and just had their lives upended. I also belong to a chronic pain group and it's been a Godsend to be able to actually
talk with others who understand what I'm dealing with. Besides them helping me through my tough times, I can be there to help them as well. Here too, I can use my years of experience to help others avoid pitfalls and it makes me feel good, gives my life more purpose. MDjunction brings people
together when their suffering, at their darkest and feeling alone in this world and allows some light to be brought back into their lives. HOPE, that's what
MDjunction means to me!

A little about me: I am a healthy 53 year old. I am addicted to life and want allot more of it. I try to adhere to the Mantra "It is better to wear out than to rust out". I love the outdoors and being nature; I eat a healthy diet and enjoy the richness of all the flavors (I've cut out on red meat since my diagnosis), I exercise and try to see the silver lining in it all, even my prostate cancer.

My Diary
My intro to the group
I am 53 years young; before surgery I was active and healthy enjoying life and the outdoors. I had a radical prostatectomy on Oct 4, my PSA was 5.6 at time of surgery. I am now recovering from surgery and dealing with it all. After watching my Dad die of prostate cancer at 72 (he was diagnosed at 60) I see my early detection as a gift of life. Surgery went very well and both nerves were spared. Pathology report indicated cancer was contained and only occupied 5% of the prostate with a Gleason score of 6 (I'm lucky). So now, my goal is recovery of all functions. I am finding a have pretty good bladder control after a couple days of having the catheter removed; what I do have is extreme internal pain if my gut if my bladder gets too full. I have managed to get an erection with a Vacurect pump (not fun and with discomfort); I was told to use it at least 2X day for 4 cycles each for rehabilitation. Dr. prescribed 10 mg Levitra twice a week which doesn't seem to do anything for my penis. I have little sensation in my penis. I would appreciate any advice to assist my progress towards a healthy recovery from those whom have traversed this path before me. Thank you for your support.
