MDJunction to me

jaguarandcubs"MDJ is an integral part of my everyday life. Since joining in 2010, I have met so many amazing people. It is truly incredible to be able to share good times and not so good times with others who face the same health challenges. And MDJ has support groups for every condition I have. I don't know of anywhere else that can offer that. I love that I can learn from others as well as offer my own experiences for others to learn from." (jaguarandcubs)

A little about me: I have had Essential Tremors since my mid-20's but didn't know what it was until in my 30's. I thought I was too young to have ET. My Dad called me one day and said he had gone to a neurologist and found out his shaking is diagnosed as Tremors. So, I went to a neurologist in my city and was finally able to put a name to my head and hand shakes. That in itself gave me some relief. I had been so frustrated thinking I was stressed or nervous yet knowing I wasn't. I would internally analyze the situation I was in and try to figure out how I felt at the time. Am I nervous? Becuase that is how it looks to others. Good friends of mine would actually shake their heads with me when it happened and we would laugh. That was okay. It's good to laugh.

I am 53 now and ET seems to have lodged in my vocal cords. It has become more obvious over the past year. I get mixed reactions from it. I am still too young for people to accept it as something I cannot control. At work, I was told to take Toastmasters to brush up on speaking in front of people. I tried to explain that it is something I cannot control which got a whole different reaction. Taking propanolol helps. I no longer work there.

I found this support group site at a time when I was 'buying a ticket on my own pity train'. It's a lonely train. I took comfort in reading other members' comments. And, I laughed again at some of our common issues. So, a big HELLO to my new friends! I hope to visit this site more often!
