A little about me: When I was 13, I woke up with my Chihuahua sleeping in his usual place on my chest-near my arm. When I got undressed to get into the shower, I noticed a black bump right where my dog's head usually rested. Looking down I was horrified to discover that this bump had little legs. I screamed and called my mother into the room. We did everything that they told you to do back in the 80's and probably nothing that we really should have done... we lit a match and tried to burn the little guy out of there... Nothing was helping. Finally, the doctor removed it for me.

After removing the tick, we stored it in a ziploc and put it in the freezer - just in case. I still cannot remember if I had a red ring around the tick bite- I want to say I did, Mom doesn't seem to think so. I never had a rash as far as I know but for some reason we still decided to get me tested anyway. My test results were negative. I was relieved. Within a year I had some pretty major joint issues. We were told that it was just 'growing pains' and the beginnings of arthritis. Basically - there was nothing anyone could do.

I lived with major pain for so many years but I'm a lucky one. I have never been bed ridden. I have however had so many other illnesses that were unexplainable.

In December 2007, I woke up completely FED UP. I couldn't take another painful day. Not another day where I'm asked why I'm constantly moving my shoulders and neck. I must look like I have some crazy tick (movement, not bug) all the time. I cannot remember a single day when I wasn't hurting in all this time.

I called my doctor, who is a D.O., and scheduled some blood tests. I asked for Rheumatoid, Lupus and a Lyme Test. My doc is also infected with Lyme (as are her husband and children). My blood work was sent off to Igenex Labs in California - 5 weeks later I got the dreaded call.

I have to say that when I did get the call I was ecstatic. I finally knew what was wrong for me and knew that there was a cure. I couldn't wait to get started! After getting into the doctor the next day, I realized that I had one hell of a journey ahead of me. I learned that there might not be a cure and that heavy antibiotics that might and might not work. Sheesh. And, that's the beginning of the learning process.

I have learned some really scary things about this disease in less than a week. I spend about 6 hours a day researching the illness, the treatments and everything in between.

I waited over 2 months to start any kind of treatment. I wanted to research as much as possible. I don't trust conventional medicine very much so taking antibiotics for 13 months just didn't cut it for me.

I found an alternative treatment facility that really changed my life. On the second day, almost all of my joint pain was GONE. By the 10th day, it had completely left me. I received acupuncture, pain management, Vit C IVs and used the hyperbaric oxygen chamber everyday. I felt like a new person.

It's been 3 months since my last treatment. I still feel great. The detoxing has helped me more than anything. I feel like I'm getting better! Finally!

Congratulations!
I am so happy for you. I would just continue to be smart about everything you can do to boost your immunity.
I had Lyme before Alex got born, was on doxy just a few days before I concieved. So far Alex is totally fine (last summer he probably got 50 ticks or so, I put him on a preventative course of antibiotics.
