A little about me: My name is Dennis. I am a father of 3, grandfather of 2.5 (so far), and husband for more than 39 years (1973) who will be eternally grateful to my family for sticking with me during my dark days. I have such a spark in me to try to return as much effort that I can to support many transplant related areas: 1) helping people and their caregivers deal with liver disease; 2) donor registration; 3) fellow recipients and people waiting for transplants; 4) donor families; 5) organizations that contribute to our community such as NKF, ALF, and Donate Life. I love to give my opinion on these topics! My advice: Always be brutally honest with your medical team-it's the only way they can help!!!

I received a new liver in July of 2008. I destroyed my native liver with alcohol developing cirrhosis with portal vein thrombosis (PVT) and eventually hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). I had been completely sober for almost 2 years before my transplant.

"I received a new liver July 2008. If not for organ donors, I would not be here today! Go register today! See DonateLife.net to find your state's registry."

"Because I have diabetes and Osteopenia/Osteoporsis and I support everyone who has these conditions."

"Cirrhosis is a horrible disease! I'm glad for my "new" liver! I wear yellow (and green) to indicate I am a survivor and to support others with this disease."

a HugThank you so much for putting that message out about the drinking issue. I felt my heart break when I saw the messages from the person who wanted to lie to their doctor in order to remain on the transplant list. I do not qualify for transplant according to my doctor. Probably because my ferritin is still so high.
