A little about me: I moved from Denver to Massachusetts in April 2008. I am from Mass originally and had been away for 12 years. Coming home felt so triumphant. I got a promotion with my company in Denver and they paid to move me back here.

I stayed with my mom, which was a really positive experience for both of us. She had a stroke a year before I moved back and we were both so happy to be in each others company again after so many years.

I LOVE my job. I get to help people with financial planning, some of whom might not be able to afford it otherwise as I work for a nonprofit.

In September of 2008, I notice a rash/bite on by buttocks had flu symptoms and put myself to bed for the weekend. I now realize that was the beginning of a downward decline in my overall health.

I started with digestion issues, went to my psychiatrist multiple times thinking that my well controlled bipolar disorder II, had somehow gotten out of control, then I finally realized I needed my PCP.

My PCP pretty much threw up her hands once I had numbness and tingling in my feet and hands and vertigo starting in October 2009. She sent me to a neurologist, who yelled at me for wasting her time and that it must be a bipolar issue.

My psychiatrist stood her ground and assured me that all of the symptoms I was describing were not in my head or a result of the lithium I currently take.

In January 2010, I fell very ill with severe pneumonia and septicemia. I was in the hospital for about 3 weeks. It took 7 different antibiotics to find one that would kill the bacteria.

I remember a comment my dad made. He said, "well, honey, if this was Lyme disease, it should be gone by now." My whole family had been wondering what was becoming of me, their usually extroverted, on the go, sister, cousin, daughter, niece. They all thought that my symptoms sounded like Lyme.

I was so happy to feel better after the pneumonia, I stopped questioning why. I went back to work on March 17, 2010 and had about a week of nose to the grind, get things accomplish mode. The next week, I could barely put a thought together, I was in pain, I was stuttering and stammering worse than ever.

I went back to my PCP and asked for a Lyme test thinking that possibly I had gotten some relief because my body had started to fight the disease with the antibiotics prescribed for the pneumonia.

My Western Blot test came back positive, but my doctor, admitted he could not read the test, took it to an ID doc and they decided it was a false-positive looking back at the pneumonia. I lost my mind when I got that call. I was crying and sobbing and begging the doctor to help me figure this out. Doctors really hate it when you do that.

I saw my LLMD on May 25, 2010. I could not remember the president of the United States when questioned. He believes I have a moderate to severe Lyme Disease and I am taking 500 mg 2xper day Biaxin and 200 mg 2xper day Plaquenil.

I have found relief knowing there are kind and caring people here on this website for which I am grateful. I'm not sure where I'd be without everyone here, especially the group leaders who foster a true sense community.
