|A little about me:||Hello all...
A little about me.
I am 32 years old mother of 3 small childern..Breanna 9 (she has Lyme), Brandon 6 and Britney 4...We were a very active family, hiking, camping, fishing, and jetsking were how we spent our weekends. That is all over now..
Last July I got "sick". it started with a rash on my neck, not a Lyme "typical rash" though. After about a week I developed some minor edema and fast heart rate, I thought it was some sort of allergic reaction. Went to my PC doc and he gave me steriod shot and blister pack, and sent me to a allergist.
The allergist did a sinus xray and a bunch of allergy testing and everything came back pretty much fine. He wanted me to get on some daily allergy meds. I did for about a week and more symptoms starting developing.
I went back to my PC doc, new symptoms were happening like every other day. Over the next couple of weeks I was at his office either everyday or every other day...He ran tons of blood work on me and I had a echo, stress test, MRI of my neck, brain CT, holter monitor, 3 EKG's. They only things that came back abnormal were Vit D and Vit B, they were very low.
My heart rate wasn't slowing down and new neuro symptoms were presenting. I was having balance issues, blurred vision, dizziness, derealization, numbness in various parts of my body, terrible neck pain, muscle pain, weakness, brain fog, burning sensation in my head, tinnitus, low blood pressure, difficultly eating and 3 panic attacks...etc.etc. The derealization and panic attacks were soooo scary and I am so glad that was short lived.
In this time I was at the ER 3 times also, I have about 20 medications from all of this... Most I never tried because I knew there was a underlying reason my body was going crazy.
My PC doc told me he didn't know what else to do for me and referred me on to a neurologist. That was a joke...went once and he told me I was having cluster migraines, never went back to him and he gave me amitriptyline. Said I would feel better once I built it up in my system.
During all of this I was tested 2 times for Lyme and both times it came back "negative"..... Little did I know that didn't mean anything...
I was sure it was Lyme and with all of my research of symptoms it could only be Lyme...In a final ditch effort to get a diagnoses I went to Vanderbilt. Suppose to be one of the best hospitals in the US, and they have a ID Dept. in house. The only thing they did there was test me for MS. That came back fine....
I was told there isn't Lyme in Tennessee and there has NEVER been a case contracted in the state.
I felt like if I didn't receive some kind of treatment I was going to die.
A few days later I went to see a NP that had been treating my family for a few years at a walk in clinic for colds and stuff. He saved my life....He spent about 2 hours with me and ran about 30 tests. He gave me doxy "just in case" until he received all the results.
Well I thought I was sick before....once the doxy got in my system it was 10 times worse. I finally got it!! My DX!!! The results came back about 2 weeks later and they were negative.
I found a LLMD and he confirmed that it was Lyme and ran my blood through Igenex and it came back pos for Lyme, Bartonella and Babesia. 8 months later I am still in treatment. Much better now though.
About 6 weeks ago my 9 year old daughter was dx with Lyme and is in treatment. She is CDC POSITIVE... She is seeing a pediatric LLMD in CT. Her symptoms are headahes, muscle and bone pain, maliase, tummy pain, digestive issue ect...she also had a negative Lyme test back in Aug. when she had the "flu".
Neither of us had a tick....
This is a horrible, crazy disease that needs more attention. I never knew of Lyme before I got sick, and that's a shame.
That's our story.....Brenda
Almost CDC Positive, maybe when I retest I'll make the count......
My 6 year old son has also been dx with Lyme 8/19/10 and has a heart murmur. Youngest also dx Lyme, husband dx Lyme, niece And sister also.... Suspect mom and dad have it too.
