MDJunction - People Helping People

MDJunction to me

MissNikkiAnn"When you have an illness with the name "Non-Familial Dysautonomia" (a name that most people, and even doctors, have never heard of), you need a network
of people who understand the name and the symptoms/issues that come with it.
MDJunction led me to that network of people during a very confusing and sickly time. For this I am thankful. And for this reason I try my best to give back to other members the same care and help that I received through MDJunction.

A little about me: I'm 48 yrs. old now. Diagnosed with Lyme in July 2009. May have had it since I was 11 yrs. old. Health started going downhill at age 11 when I was diagnosed with mononucleosis. At age 12, I started my period & almost bled to death. I lost half my blood supply. Dr. said that my hormones weren't balanced. I've had 8 surgeries for various problems, miscarried 2x, migraine headaches, diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia, depression, hypothyroidism. I have always had massive amounts of pain that got worse through the years. My llmd says that the myelin sheath was deteriorating.

I have some cysts in my blood & along with that: Bartonella, Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Mycoplasmas, & trigeminal neuralgia. My Lyme mimicks MS.

I have fired many md's who told me: it's all in my head, I was just going to have to get my nerves together, there's nothing wrong with you, I don't know why you have so much pain,"you're just getting older & these things happen" & my personal favorite-- I need to take better care of myself & basically told me that I was drug seeking.

I have a wonderful llmd who uses herbs & supplements as well as traditional medicine. I feel like I might actually get well now. At the very least, my life will be better in the future than it has been in the past.

I've been married for 30 yrs. to a wonderful man who has stood by my side through some tough health problems. He was skeptical about the diagnosis because of the dozens of Dr.'s I've seen in our lifetime. However, he went with me to a visit & saw my blood under a dark field microscope. When we got home I showed him the 1st photo of my blood compared with the new photo & he became a believer.

We have a son & a daughter. I think my daughter has lyme.

My Diary
My path to wellness
Today is July 21, 2009. After 20+ years I have been diagnosed with Lyme Disease. I constantly have pain that is difficult to treat, severe migraines, inability to tolerate the heat, inability to do aerobic exercise, insomnia...& that's the worst of it. I'm sure when I move along in treatment there will be other things that pop up. I cried all pm because it is so wonderful to finally find out what it wrong with me. My Dr. said, "I know this is devastating, but it can be treated." I said, "You don't understand, I am so thankful to find out what is wrong." He said it will take time to heal.
