MDJunction to me

tomboykimi"What MD Junction means to me is a place where i can feel like im not alone. As someone with something as rare as hydrocephalus, it feels like im the only one in the world with it. When i came to MD, its like everyone has it. It doesnt feel like im alone. And that people need to hold up a sign to say what i have, because people know. And they understand. I can get questions answered from people who have been through it rather than from doctors or people who only can tell you from a physical standpoint. THat is what MD junction means to me." Seriously!!! I'm OVER the vertigo!!! Blink

Found this website tonight doing an internet search, I hope I can get some valuable feedback because other than my boyfriends 87 year old father, I do not know anyone else personally that has/had vertigo.

I am 42 years of age and suffer from seasonal allergies and allergic asthma. I take a Zyrtec-D in the morning, a Singular in the afternoon and Zyrtec at night. I also take allergy shot (2) each week and a monthly Xolair injection. When it's my peak season (which is getting longer and longer each year) I also use Pro-Air and Qvar inhalers.

Fall is usually my worst season but living in Kentucky and with the mild winter, Spring hit me like a ton of bricks. I missed several days of work in late Feb-March due to sinus pressure/headaches and just plain sneezing my head off... then on April 6th, Vertigo came to town and hasn't left. I was sick to my stomach, light hurt, noise hurt, movement hurt, looking up, looking down, LAYING down, nothing helped. I was MISERABLE!!!!

I see my allergist on a regular basis so I started with him when the Vertigo set in, he gave me a prescription for Prednisone (which usually tames my allergies to a tolerable level so I can somewhat function). I also took Bonine... nada...

Allergist sends me to an ENT... ENT looks in both ears and gives me Meclazzine (sp?)... nada... call back in a week and he refers me to Avada Audiologist...

By time I see the Audiologist, it's the first week in May and I am diagnosed with BILATERAL BENIGN PAROZYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO (I have it in both ears). After my first visit and treatment (Canalith repositioning procedure) I felt a MILLION times better, but was still experiencing vertigo just not as severe.

I've been going by-weekly for the procedure and have not improved. Around the 2nd visit (about 5 weeks ago) I started swelling in my feet, then my ankles and now all over. I tried over the counter water pills and nada.... went to my regular doctor last week and he ordered a basic blood test and prescribed 30 mg of Lasix. Here it is a week later and I still have swelling, I still have vertigo, and am at my witts end. He upped my Lasix to 40 mg a day and ordred more blood tests. Tomorrow I go to the hospital for a BLE VENOUS DOPPER test.

I've been working for (BLANK COMPANY) for 15 years and had FMLA. I've been unable to work/drive/function since Apri 6th. My FMLA ran out and was put on Short Term Disability. I'm worried about losing my job, but mainly I'm worried about this condition.

What is causing the vertigo? What is causing the swelling? Will I ever be able to drive again? work again? go out in public again? LAY DOWN IN MY BED AGAIN???? (been sleeping either in the recliner or on the couch with pillows propped up)

Does anybody's story sound familiar? Does anyone have any advice? I really appreciate anyone's feedback or suggesions.

Most vertigo is pretty familiar, spinning spinning spinning, however your other symptoms raise a few flags. You're swelling and inability to lay down are not typical of BPPV. Have you seen any other doctors beside your ENT and allergist? All of your symptoms can be caused by several things including cardiac issues and kidney problems. The best suggestion I can give you is to get a full checkup, a little more blood work can detect if there are any problems with your kidneys, or anything else.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Thanks Kristy, I appreciate your feedback. Went to my regular doctor twice, he ordered more bloodwork on Tuesday and on Wednesday I went for my doppler test on my legs.

Still waiting on the blood results. Got the Doppler results back today and no evidence of acute deep or superficial thrombosis in either leg....

Went to my audiologist today for another manuver and she gave me the names of some other GP (regular) doctors. I feel like mine is not being agressive enough to find out the CAUSE of the swelling and the vertigo. Will start making phone calls on Monday to set up more appointments.

At least there isn't any DVT, keep working with doctors, it's ok to switch until you find one that fits. Personally I advise asking about cardiac, liver and kidney function tests to make sure nothing is out of wack with them. Best of luck to you and please keep us posted

You really seem to be experiencing multiple issues. The edema might be complicating vertigo but it's hard to know yet. Keep trying to get healthy.

Thanks Tamie... that's what my audiologists seems to think too. She thinks the swelling is making it harder for me to get rid of the vertigo. Gonna start making phone calls in the morning to try and find a new doctor.

audiology appointment today, still have it in both ears... start at home exercises on Friday, three times a day and go back in two weeks.

Tried to get an appt with my mom's doctor (since mine is a moron)but he's booked solid so they are going to call if they have a cancellation.

My short term disablity is approved thru July 1st, audiologist was going to send more paperwork to try and get it extended. I'm nervous about losing my job and never getting rid of this stupid vertigo!!!

Finally got in to see my mom's doctor today and my blood results are normal. My kidney levels are at the high end of the normal range so he asked me to keep a food and drink diary, keep taking the lasix, wrap my legs at night with ace bandages, prop my feet up when I sleep and at least 2-3 hours a day and he's sending me for a CT scan of my abdomen next week. He said he doesn't think I have a tumor or blockage, but he can't figure out what would be causing my swelling since my blood tests are normal. I've gained 28 lbs since the vertigo set in and I guarantee 80-90% is due to the swelling. I haven't been as active as I was prior to the vertigo so I'm sure I've gained weight due to that, but there is no way I gained 28 lbs because of inactivity.

Short Term Disability has been extended thru July 15th so going to try not to worry about work for at least two more weeks. Stresses me out too bad thinking I might lose my job because of this stupid illiness!!!
