Well yesterday I faced my worst fear I had to go in for a CTscan for a kidney stone that is stuck and had me in the ER all day last week and I've been feeling soo miserable but anyway I had to lay flat on my back for this test and yup just as I thought I got vertigo and wanted to scream and tell the tech (that by the way had no bedside manners whatsoever)to get me out of the tube so I could sit up I just felt so scared and miserable. Thank god it subsided and I was able to get it done but it just messed me up even more I'm still feeling dizzy and when I got up from there I got really dizzy I barely made it out of the Imaging office. What made things even worse was that the technician had no sympathy or compasion for me whatsoever when i told him I was feeling the vertigo he just stood there staring at me with out even trying to help me or even wanting to I had to ask him to please help me sit up. It was just an awful experience just as I thought it would be. Then the tech tells me he also suffered from vertigo at one time I felt like telling him oh yeah sure you can really tell by your sympathy (Jerk)Now I have to go in next week because the dr. is going to blast the stone by shock waves and there we go again I have to lay on my back again even thought he said I will be asleep. I'm just so sick of this vertigo I want it to stop it's ruined my life. Sick Angry

I'm an Advocate

Oh my! You definitely have my sympathies, it sounds like your tech needs to go back to school and learn customer service skills. It's possible he was just having a bad day and had other things on his mind but that is no excuse for the way he treated you. I've been having some pretty ugly bouts with my vertigo lately, but fortunately have not had the displeasure of dealing with rude lab techs or hospital personnel in general.

Sending lots of prayers and good thoughts your way that you at least get some comfort after the stones are taken care of.

We don't just embrace insanity here, we feel it up, french kiss it and buy it a drink.

I am not a doctor, my advice is based on my own experiences and those I know, please speak with your doctor before beginning or ending any treatments.

Well dazy, at least you made it through it. I hate those MRI's and Catscans too. There bad enough on a good day.

Do you always feel dizzy when you lay down? What about when you sleep? I can't even imagine. That's when I get relief. When I sit and lay down that is.

Most people don't even have a clue what it's like to be dizzy most of the time.

I can't let it get me down though. We all need to keep on keepin on. What else is there.

When I had physical therapy, they said that they were re-training my brain to compensate for the malfunction. I sometimes think of it when I'm walking or trying to go about my daily life. It does seem to get a little better when I really concentrate on moving.

Just think how good it's going to feel once that stone is gone. I know about that too.

dear dazy,

i am so sorry to read that you had such a awful human being to have to be sick with. i will never understand why some ppl get into the medical field..if they do not have compassion. if one thinks about it seriously that anyone in the medical field is dealing with sickness all the time...there are going to be some ppl that need more assistance then others. since i have had vertigo since 2007 i have been to some pretty rude doctors/specialist. one was an audiologist and he was so very rude to me..i was so very sick still after a month of vertigo..all i heard from him is your tests seem normal and when i would retch and vomit he usually just said that he had never seen anyone that did all that with vertigo..right...most vertigo ppl have vomiting because of the severe dizzy and other symptoms. then i had a parathyroid problem about 7 months into trying to get my vertigo still in control and that was horrible then i had my gallbladder 3 months later get bad ..that doctor was so rude to me he made me feel like i was just being over reactive...when my family doctor..(who was so compassionate about my whole sickness and had ordered a sonogram to see if there was something else going on and found problems with my gallbladder when i went to the specialist/surgeon about it he just said most ppl that come to me are in a lot of pain.i kept telling him that i dont know how i feel anymore cuz i feel so bad every minute of the day with my vertigo and vomiting...my fam doctor insisted i call him and get the surgery no matter what he said. after they went in to took my gallbladder out they saw that it was infected inside and out and in very poor shape..so i was thankful for my one and only family doctor that took me serious and got me thru so many of my illnesses that showed up with my vertigo..now i am very unbalanced, retch and vomit a lot of the days, i have no energy anymore and i think that is just because i can not do very much without either getting a good dose of vertigo or vomiting ..i know how you feel and it is so terrible to be treated so rude when we dont feel good and are scared too. so take care my friend and know that we are all here to help in whatever way we can. i am very new to this site but i am willing to listen if you ever need an ear..hang in there..(((hugs)) oh yeah and so sorry this is a book ...didnt mean to get so carried away...Sideways

I have recently had to have a bunch of tests - MRI brain, CT abdomen, and most recently MRI of the knee (because I fell). Oh, and I also had accupuncture and a knee x-ray - for all of which you have to lie on your back!!! I ALWAYS have this fear - and I know you can relate!!! - that when I arise from the table the world will spin out of control. I always tell the tech that I am prone to get dizzie and they are usually understanding and help me up and take their time with me. Sorry you had a bad experience with that!!! You know that feeling when you first wake up in the morning and you are afraid to move for fear of the room spinning??!! Sometimes I think the FEAR of vertigo is causing me a lot of angst. Also, no one really understands the pain and frustration and humiliation. Even the doctors who treat vertigo, I'm not sure they "get it". It's just such an awful situation to be in!! I haven't had any really bad episodes lately but vertigo has left me unbalanced and emotionally drained. Due to the imbalance, I have fallen twice in the last couple of month. The last fall was down one flight of stairs landing on my right knee, thus the need for knee x-ray and MRI. Will see the orthopedic surgeon as soon as the insurance company gets me through their bureaucratic red tape!! Meanwhile, my rt knee is still swollen and painful even after about 6 weeks!!! Sheeesh already!! Vertigo can really mess with your quality of life!! Due to the knee injury I can't do one of the important balance exercises. It's a vicious cycle. Anyway, you have to take it one day at a time. Hang in there, my fellow vertigo sufferers and survivors.
