One of my old pdocs was strongly suggesting VNS or ECT to treat my depression. After some lengthily research I decided it wasn't the treatments for me. With VNS if it does not work the implant can be removed but the electrodes are permanent. It also is a long term treatment and can take up to a year to get results. ECT aka shock treatment is another story all together. Though touted as a safe alternative it is far from the truth. It has worked in some people with TRD though from what I've read on it there is still a lot of controversy on its effectiveness in treating depression. I've seen first hand what a round of ECT can do to a person and would not even consider or recommend it to anyone. Working close with my pdoc we have managed pretty well so far with meds and psycho therapy. peace & hugs
