For the first time ever I feel as though I must have been hitting a nerve when I was chewing my food. I many times have jaw/tooth/ear pain and a feeling of inflammation after eating. But, this time when I was chewing I had an intense, shooting pain down the right jaw. It started right in front of my ear and went down my jawline. I about came out of my seat....and that was the end of my meal. By the next day it seemed better. I was soooo careful when eating. It didn't do it again, but I'm afraid it might. Has anyone else had this happen to them??

Don’t shoot me, but I have a bunch of questions.

When were you diagnosed?

Do you hurt more in the morning or at night?

Have you ever had surgery to your TMJ?

Do you wear a splint?

Have you been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, RSD, CRPS, RA, DJD, OA, Lupus, etc?

Can you better describe the pain? I understand shooting…. Did it sting, burn, tingle, pierce…? Was it hot or cold? Did you taste anything? Was your speech affected for a few minutes?

In any case, try moist heat. Hot showers, rice or flax seed bags, and sauna. I have had these types of pains for years, but the type of pain matters, so I hesitate to say more. You may want to talk to your doctor about referring you to a Myofacial pain center in your area if the pain continues. There are a lot of companion conditions to TMJ, and you really need to be aware of what is going on and be proactive in your treatment.

Good luck!
