Hi Everyone ...

I was diagnosed with a ""dead"" thyroid in Sept.2006. My GPs exact words (after telling him ""I m soooo tired all of the time etc.) were ""Well, blood tests show we need to ""jump start"" your thyroid."" Seems it is totally non-functioning.

I have been on ever-changing doses of Synthroid (one appt. he will increase it and another decrease dosage). Still (to me)nothing seems to be changing.

I was, last month, diagnosed with Fibromyalgia also.

However, my question for this forum is:

Is there anyone else here with a totally non-functioning thyroid ? If so, what are drs. doing for you and are they helping ?

Hi all, I an new to the gorup but have been diagnosed with hypo thyroidism since 199. I weighed 225 when it stopped working and 8 months later when i finally found someone to diagnose me with what was wrong i weighed 400 lbs. One good thing in the process of finding why i was gaining so much weight even though i was eating less they found the fibromyalgia and the arthritis and the herniated discs in my back etc. I have had to have gastric bypassfir the weight loss but i had a reaction to the anesthesia and almost died so i cant get rid of tall the excess skin the doctor figured about a 100 - 125lbs of my eight now is the excess skin. I weigh 268.

I am on Synthroid have have been on changing doses since diagnoses. Well glad i was told by mydragonfly about htis group'

Hi aunit3285 how often does your doctor take blood tests for thyroid function, with changing doses the rule is usually every three to four months. My doctor does this and adjusts the synthoid dose according to the readings and my symptoms, does yours do that. malaluka
