MDJunction to me

"In the 3 months I have been with MDJunction I have developed a sense of calmness. I now friends who do not judge me because I have been a mental mess at times. It is such a good feeling to have friends I can tell my deepest thoughts and always get back to me with their support. I have never seen a therapist for long periods of time. Right or wrong, this is the best therapy possible for me. Thanks Roy for getting this up and running and making such a difference in my life. Sara" (saralaurie)

hi! i new to this. i'm been reading alot of the thyroid forums. And i'm wondering is there any doctors out there that listen to their patients are even take them serious? ihave toxic multti goiter nodules on my thyroid and goiters on the left side. i was diagnois with the 2 nodules on the right side of my thyroid 5 years ago. they were not toxic and they were benign. that was with a doctor at MD Anderson. he said they were just going to watch them. i had 3 visit with him and he said not much has change.there was no need for me to keep coming back. just let my primary doctor keep an eye on them. if i have any problems he was just a phone call away when i started having problems with waking up choking, with heart racing, palpatations and some other things, i called and made appiontment with him instead i was given an appointment to see a P.A. she did blood work up and a thyroid ultrasound she too said everything was still the same. four months later my new primary doctor had a thyroid nuclear uptake done and it show that they are now what they call toxic multi goiter nodules. she sent me to an endocrinoligist who all but knew me for 15 minutes said that it was good that i had more than one nodule he never told me why but i knew from reading that they are less likely to become cancer. but this quack told me that i was sick because i was depress and all my problems stem from this. he prescribe me Lexypro. if he knew his job he would know that thyroid prblems bring on depress and mood swings. i went to the diagnostic clinic in Houston, and was referred to another endocrinoligist, you brought in a model of a normal thyroid and lumpy thyroid and said the lumpy one was mine. i ask what was he going to do about it? he said my numbers was not to abnormal, he said that i have what they call Hashimoto Disease.Come back and see him in 6 mos. I'm confused my begining report back when i went to MD Anderson, the Doctor said he beleived i was at the begining of Graves Disease. it seems to go from Hyperthyroidism to Hypothyroidism. and yet i have i still have not been treated for the nodule which are growing. my neck and throut hurts. i wake up choking, not mention i been in the hospital this year because of symtoms of a stoke and ekg. Blood Pressure stays high and so on and so on...... does anyone listen! I tire of be like this, it is enough to make you need Lexypro! Can someone please help me. Getting despress and discourage!

Hello cilesso ...

Welcome to our group ...we are happy to have you join us.

I have Hashimotos' (totally non-functioning thyroid) but I am not at all familiar with thyroid nodules you mentioned. Sorry ....

Hopefully, someone else here in our group will check in and be able to help you with some information.

Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, thanks for replying. Since you are personally informed of Hashimatos' disease please give me your insight was'nt given info by doctor he just say's to come back in 6 mos. is that standard reply? I'm not sure if this true diagnois. I was told back in 2003 that it was the the early start of Graves disease. Does this change up? the Nodules keeps my thyroid inflames. my whole body stays inflames. Hope you can enlighten me. cilesso

Hi cilesso,

I will try to answer your questions as best I can or find more info for you if needed.

I am surprised that your dr. waits 6 months between appts. Mine has me in there every 3 months for blood work to see if anything has changed. I guess length of time between drs. must be dependent on that particular dr.

Is this a specialist or your regular PCP ?

Hi Mariyln, Several friends suggestted that I go to a diagnoistic clinic. The internist sent me to him, he is endocrinologist.I've only seen him once.when I him I felt rejected again.I have talked to so many people that have problems with their thyriod and they all have been treated in some sort of way, either medicine or surgery. I'm not in a hurry to have surgery but I do want to be treated for this problem and not just treated for the problems it has created. I have been to so many doctors. I've read a little about hashimotos', what do you mean non-functional? Does it ever become functional anf is this a back and forth problem? Cilesso

Morning Cilesso ...

I have never been sent to an endo but I hear those that have. I always thought they were for internal (liver, kidney, bladder etc.)problems.

I think thyroid problems are a lot more common than most people believe.

As for ""non-functioning"" thyroid, when my PCP first recommended blood work for my complaints of being tired all the time he said, ""first thing we have to do is ""jump start"" your thyroid"" . I said ""jump start it"" .. he said ""yep, it s dead (like a car battery)"".

Blood work did indeed say my thyroid was doing nothing, just sitting in there like a lump.

Being on the Levro has definitely helped but not a whole lot. For the first year or so, we were altering dosages every blood test but now I seem to be pretty stable on the same dosage for several months. (means my thyroid IS working a little more on its' own).

I, too, want to avoid surgery if at all possible.

It s time for next blood work the 20th of this month so will know a little more about what is going on.

I think we have my thyroid ""in control"", now if we could just do something more about this nasty Fibro that rears its' ugly head much too often to suit me.

Hope you have a great day today !!! Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, I'm glad your thyroid medincine is leveling out. but I've heard of fibro and that is very painful.I read it can be brought on by thyroid disease. Is this true for you? I've been to three different endocrinolgist. Not one has ever put me on medicine. No one has ever been on the same page, except to do nothing! My PCP is the one that say's if we get the thyroid taken care of some of my other problems are reverseable. Oh! maybe one day I'll find the right doctor you take care of all this. for now I'll have to deal with each problem like eyes, heart and etc.seperately. I think this is more of an insurance issue. About the time i was going to MDAnderson Cancer Center to the endo, after the third visit to the endo, there was a dispute between the hospital and the insurance and my insurance co.they refuse to pay a claim that took the hospital a year to file. so that when my endo decided that it was no need to keep coming every six months. But every since then I've had problems getting a doctor to help me. They see that the number one cancer center doctor did't do anything there must be nothing to do, although they all seem suprised that I have not been treated for the nodules on my thyroid. My pcp has not been treating it because it is not her speciality. But she do keep up with the blood work. she disagree with the others, but I'm puzzled, why can't she refer me to someone who can? I do know this I'm not crazy, just loosing my mind Cilesso

Good morning, Cilesso ...

I hope you had a good weekend and this will be a good Monday for you also. I m okay (so far) this morning...not hurting too much for the start of a new week.

Have lots to do today so shouldn t be sitting here but thought about you first thing.

I am only being treated by PCP (thyroid) and my Rhuemy (Fibro). Have never been referred to an Endo and hope that isn t in my future.

I seem to always be fortunate in having dr. that will listen to me and discuss everything pretty freely with me. I really like (and appreciate) that !!!

It surely doesn t help your situation when your insurance doesn t want to cover your needs .

Take care , Friend !!!

Don t give up, Cilesso... that shows defeat and if you want to feel better, you can t be defeated.

Look for another dr. ...it s always best to have a good rapport with your dr.

Tears and pity today ? Okay ...cry and get it out of your system. TOMORROW a new day and a different positive outlook !!!

Please don t leave our group ... you are not harming anyone and it s hard to ""help"" when you re not feeling well yourself.
