MDJunction to me

Macv"For me, MDjunction has been a place where I can share my experiences
living with the very rare bone disease called Ollier's ( Enchondromatosis ) with the parents of children recently diagnosed. I can help them not to run
into the pitfalls my parents did when I was young, give them a bit of a view
from their child's perspective and simply be there to offer support and
hope to people who are scared and just had their lives upended. I also belong to a chronic pain group and it's been a Godsend to be able to actually
talk with others who understand what I'm dealing with. Besides them helping me through my tough times, I can be there to help them as well. Here too, I can use my years of experience to help others avoid pitfalls and it makes me feel good, gives my life more purpose. MDjunction brings people
together when their suffering, at their darkest and feeling alone in this world and allows some light to be brought back into their lives. HOPE, that's what
MDjunction means to me!

Hey everyone...

New here.. I am 33 years old, a single mom of a (almost) 3 year old son. I am a nurse (hence the RN in my name)... I have been doing Labor and Delivery nursing for 11 years. I just changed jobs to a desk job as an High Risk OB Case Manager to get off of my feet! I have had plantar fascitis X 13 years... had surgery in both feet, multiple ( I can't even begin to count) cortisone injections, night splints, orthotics, platlet therapy injections, shock wave therapy.. you name it, I've tried it. Just got DX with TTS now in both feet. Am schedule to have nerve condition tests to see how bad it is... started taking Lyrica for the pain..hopefully it works, because taking Vicodin all the time sucks. I REALLY hate my feet.. I am in constant pain, I had to leave my job to get a desk job, hoping it would help..and they STILL hurt. I REFUSE to give up... I am still working out, walking... just dealing with the pain. I am still young, and don't want to live like this! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am glad to find a community that others are going thru this as well.. it seems that some people think I am making it up, that it really doesn't hurt. Sigh... I hate this!! Thanks for listening!

Ali - did you do the nerve tests? Were they positive? Has the lyrica helped? My tests were negative and the Lycria did nothing but they still think I have TTS and want to do the surgery. What state do you live in? I'm wondering who are the BEST doctors in the country for this. I'm willing to travel anywhere to get help!

Hey there.. I haven't had the test yet, in a couple weeks so we'll see how that goes. The lyrica started to help AMAZING at first.. not so much now, so I'm wondering if I should increase the dose or what? It sucks. What kind of surgery do they do for TTS? I seriously hate my feet. It's awful. Where are you at?

I'm in Chicago. I hate my feet too. Ruining my life. Today is particularly bad day. Had to sit on the floor at the store b/c I couldn't stand one more minute.

As for the TTS, it depends on what is causing the TT. Mine is supposedly a space issue. They say I have a muscle that is too long that should stop up at the calf and actually travels down into the tunnel, crowding out the veins and arteries and causes the press = pain. But TT can be caused by nerve issues, cysts, veins, etc. The EMG/NCV is something you should do but just know you can still have TTS and have a negative on the nerve test. Frustrating!

Hey all...

thanks for the info. I did have a positive nerve test, which I was actually quite happy about. Didn't thing I'd be happy about bilateral nerve damage, but it's actually a relief to know that there IS something wrong with my feet. That there IS a reason for them to hurt all the freaking time. Dizzy And I'm not crazy or delirous about the pain. Ya know? So I'm on Neurotin, it helped probably the first 2-3 weeks, and now it seems like it's not working.. although I'm not up to the 600 mg BID like she wants me up to. I tried to take a larger dose at first and I was a ZOMBIE at work. Not good!! So we'll see where this TTS journey goes.. I really DON'T want the surgery. Seems like an awful recovery, and NOT a guarantee that it even works. So that is my LAST resort. Ugh. Glad to have found others with TTS and understand how much this SUCKS!!

Hey, Alli. I realize it's been awhile since this post, but I just discovered this site. I have been dealing with this for about 15 years or more and I can't really remember life without it. I definitely empathize. I was wondering if you've had any success over the last year. I tested negative for the nerve conduction, but know there is something very wrong. I think I may be slightly out of the norm because I think my issue is do to overuse with weightlifting for years, especially calf work. However, the MRI and xrays show up as normal. Therefore I don't know if there is a slightly torn fascia, ligament, tendon, whatever causing the tts. I have been dealing with this for so long and would gladly pay very good money to have it resolved. If there is anything I can help with let me know and I hope you will do the same. Good luck!

Deear Alli,

I assume you are speaking about a nerve conduction study/EMG (electromyogram). Just because this test was negative does not mean that you don't have nerve compression causing tarsal tunnel syndrome. First, there is always the possibility that the test was done incorrectly as this type of study is dependent on sepcific protocols. Secondly, while NCS/EMG is often the most prescribed test, there remains controvery as to when or if it should even be used, even for established diagnoses like carpal tunnel syndrome. In fact, this very issue was the topic of a recent panel at the American Society for Peripheral Nerve meeting in January. The reasons for why the test may be are quite involved and beyond the scope of a single post. Thirdly, many physicians treat tests and not patients and there are many like you who test negatively and still have pathology. Hope this helps.

Dr. Baxter in Houston is the BEST doctor (orthopedic surgeon) in the country for the foot and ankle. I saw him in Houston several years ago when I had pain after my plantar fasciotomy which was unsuccessful.. He told me the doctor cut a nerve and I should get on Ultram and the pain would eventually go away. It did two years later (with 2 other meds that were prescribed by a pain mgmt specialist. Now I have Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome and am thinking about going back to see Dr Baxter. I don't know if you have heard of Baxter's Nerve but he was the one who discovered it and named it after himself. Hope this helps. Keep me posted.

I was on Neurontin (also known as Gabapentin) and it made me wacked out. I totally sympathize with you. Then the doctor put me on Lyrica which made me feel totally drugged up and even suicidal - like I didn't care if I died. I was so depressed that I couldn't do aerobics (low impact) or light weight lifting or even yoga without throbbing pain in my foot. I would suggest you see a pain mgmt specialist and see if you can get on Ultram (Tramadol is the generic form) Lamictal during the day and Klonopin at night which acts as a muscle relaxant and helps you sleep. Hugs, I hope you get better. I am still suffering from chronic pain in my right foot and am thinking about seeing the best doctor in the country, Dr. Baxter, in Houston, for my tarsal tunnel syndrome. - Debbie
