Hi Madbell,

I have not had any surgical procedures done. My arms are also 100% blocked but I have good collaterals and surgery is not recommended unless absolutely necessary. I do not have carotid involvement so your case is a little different from mine. My advice to you is unless you are already seeing a specialist in TA from a large University (there are probably about 6 in the country), then get a second opinion from them. Even if you cannot see them, have your doctor contact the University closest to you and have him speak to the specialist about your case. You would be surprised how available the doctors are about discussing your case since it is so rare. Even if you cannot get this done before surgery, do it after your surgery. Seeing a specialist even once can give you insight into your disease, hope and reassurance, and the newest treatments available.

Good Luck, keep us informed and let us know about you.. How long have you had TA? Are you on medications?
