Hi Group

I am a Medical Psychologist - health researcher and health writer. I have been doing a lot of research on high glycemic foods and sugar and decided to stop using them.

I have eaten a whole foods diet near organic for 40 years. I love home made cookies - cobblers and an occasional cheat with real candy. I also love artisan breads - corn chips and things like my mothers southern biscuit recipe....but my real sugar intake was very low.

So two weeks ago I go cold turkey to anything with a glycemic index higher than 60. I have never been so sick in my life - some days I literally want to pack it in and die. I have severe 24/7 nausea - shoot myself headaches - gut cramps - muscle pain and unnamable sick symptoms so I can hardly work or function.

If I am this sick coming off what small amount of sugar/carbs I can not imagine what they were doing to my body and brain.

Has anyone else been this sick????

I think you were probably sick for other reasons. If you stop eating refined sugar, you probaby know since you are so well educated, that you feel much better and your body starts working at it's peak performance.

I am addicted to fatty, sugary baked goods. When I eat them, I normally binge and the matter is out of my control. I try to just avoid sugar all together for the most part.

I did make cookies this weekend and ate at least 5 at one sitting. I started out feeling really stimulated from the first cookie and then just kept uncontrollably shoveling it in. I did not feel well at all when I was done eating them.

I feel so good without sugar.

Were alot of the sugary things you were eating chocolate or soda? It could have been caffiene withdrawels if so.

If you continue eating this way, I think you will find you feel great. Make sure you eat rices and other whoel food grains as well as fruits, nuts, beans and legumes. I do not see why you would feel bad if you do this.
