I have tried over and over to break my sugar addiction. This addiction is worse than cocaine or heroin. How can a sugar addict stop when sugar is everywhere. This just doesnt seem possible and the possibility of relaspe is very high. It is a chemical imbalance. Addiction is a inherited trait but does anyone know how to re-wire the brain to break this sugar addiction....

Hi everyone,
I have a question? Is it really possible to totally give up eating sugars for life...other than natural sugars?
Are there any successful people out there? If so clue me in with helpful hints. Is it a One day at a time type of deal?

I have read some real and powerful posts, which have hit home deep for me.
Thanks everyone!...

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the group, and I have read some interesting things. I really never considered myself as a sugar addict...never thought there was such a thing, but, I have recently discovered that I am a sugar addict. I previously thought that everyone eats sugar, and it's a normal part of life, and people only binge sometimes, and this does not make them and addict. I have been working on cutting sugars, and to me, if I go the week without sugar, I feel it is acceptable to treat myself ...

Hi all,

I think its taken me a long time to figure it out, but after years of denial I can finally say that I have a sugar addiction. My tendencies are similar to people on this board, if I'm at home on my own I always crave sugar in one form or another, (chocolate, cakes, cookies) and if there is any lying around I can't just eat it in moderation, I will eat the whole thing until either it's finished, or unitl I feel too ill to continue.

I'm not really sure where to go from here. In gene...

How I survived pizza night: Today was a super busy day for my family and me with doctor appointments, baseball practice, church commitments and other errand. That meant pizza for dinner. So what did I eat. Part of my sugar abstinence means I eat a low carb diet. I eat a lot of fruits and veges, a lot of salads, omelets, stir-frys, baked yams and I will confess probably way too much cheese. (I'm still perfecting my diet - tis true)

Well I stir-fried mushrooms and onions with a little garlic s...

Wow! Thanks for sharing such a thorough picture! I can relate to so much. One thing that resonates with me is the dental issues. I'm missing several. I have an unfortunate smile. I want to sing in church but when I open my mouth it's not pretty. That's another story...

You really captured the fullness and the extent of what I also experience as an addict. It's not just soda or just candy for me. It is ALL of the above. SWEET or SALTY carbs. Gooey, crumbly or crispy sweets it doesn't matter. I...

You can totally do this! The latest research shows that sugar, along with other highly processed foods high in fat and salt, is as addictive as cocaine or alcohol, and they decimate the reward system of your brain in exactly the same way. The good news -- and there IS good news -- is that a program of foods high in dopamine- and serotonin-boosting chemicals, along with numerous brain-amping activities (from simple exercise to listening to music) can regrow those receptors and bring the confide...

So I've just joined, but man, I totally relate to everyone here.

I've had a sugar addiction my whole life. It's not as bad as some of my worst points in my life, but I'm trying to take the high moment to really get it under control and work my will power muscles. Then my husband started keeping 2 liter bottles of soda, and my daily chocolate levels went way up...then it all went down hill as my stress levels went up.

It was nice for a while - realizing that if I was going to have sugar, I...

It took me several tries to quit my Dr Pepper addiction. Same with alcohol, fast food, coffee/caffeine. Several tries. Its been two years since I've had fast food, soda, or alcohol. I made a year long commitment with myself and so far have kept it going.
I don't know how I did it. And whenever I see someone with a Dr Pepper I still lust after it. But I think switching to water was a good choice.
It sounds like you have it bad though.
Cut back. Cut back. And cut back some more until yo...

I read it earlier in the year and it makes a good case for eating a plain baked potato just before bed. I did it for a while and it was a nice ritual. It's surprisingly good with just pepper....
