MDJunction to me

jaguarandcubs"MDJ is an integral part of my everyday life. Since joining in 2010, I have met so many amazing people. It is truly incredible to be able to share good times and not so good times with others who face the same health challenges. And MDJ has support groups for every condition I have. I don't know of anywhere else that can offer that. I love that I can learn from others as well as offer my own experiences for others to learn from." (jaguarandcubs)

So, i have been told by more then one specialits and doctor that really the only thing that i can do for my shin splints are to not walk, or do anything with heavy impact. Also they mention iceing them, and taking advil.

Is that true? if not, does anyone know of anything that would help?

Shin splints is a vague term that means you have pain along your shins. Did they do any tests to determine if it's swollen muscle but no bone damage (yet), or if it's periostitis (inflamed surface of the bone) or if it's a stress fracture? When I had that I decided against testing because the treatment is pretty much the same. Rest, ice, antiinflammatories. The other thing that helped me but only worked because the problem was quite low down on my shin, was wearing an aircast splint. I was also told not to start running again until I had been 2 weeks painfree with walking and regular daily non-athletic activities. That was more than 20 yrs ago and I've never had aproblem since. Good luck! Jo
