I'm an Advocate

Working with Fibro or any other chronic conditions brings it's own unique sets of challenges. As a result, I asked Roy to set up a Work and Chronic Conditions support group here on MDJunction. I encourage everyone with an interest in this topic to join. We are just starting out and I am collecting links and articles and a list of suggested topics to begin discussions...please sign up and participate. I think things will start rolling once I get a chance to publicize it and get more material in it.

Not much will happen over the next couple of weeks due to vacation (first since the fibro and stenosis started impacting my life in a big way...so nervous) and work demands. But, I have a lot of plans to outfit the site with legal refences, tools to help in requesting accommodations, ways to discuss your condition and limitations with your boss, clients, and co-workers, information that will inform you of your rights and ways to proteect your job, etc.

I am in the process of drafting a book on the topic, and will share what I come up with during the research process and may ask for volunteers to share your stories as well at one point.

Anyway, I look forward to supporting those that continue to slug away working while trying to deal with fibro or any other debilitating, chronic condition...BTW, I consider raising children work as well...I am doing both too, though my condition hit me as I have one in college and one moving into high school. People with young children and a chronic condition that causes pain, fibro fog, insomnia, fatigue, and all of the other lovely symptoms we all share absolutely amaze me...Hats off to you for keeping things going while dealing with your health issues.

Anyway, come join me and others in sharing, supporting each other and dealing with work issues. Have a fabulous, pain-free weekend!
