I agree with Heather. All medical evidence substantiating your claim should be submitted for inclusion into your claim file. It can only help to bolster your claim. Good luck at level 2!

I'm an Advocate

It is worth it to apply, but like others have mentioned, you really do need a diagnosis from a doctor (and having tests to go along with it would help). When you submit your application, the date of its receipt is the date your claim officially begins.

While it may take more tests and visits to a doctor in order to really ascertain that you are indeed disabled and in real need of SSI, be aware that the Social Security System is having financial problems, and probably for that reason more than others, it is screening people very carefully.

The majority of applications get rejected as a matter of course.

You have 3 times at bat: once on your own, once with the help of a Social Security specialist attorney, and finally a personal appearance.

The attorney takes a portion of the lump sum benefit (determined by when you submitted the appplication), and that amount is fixed by law. Therefore, they represent you for free (I think) and their pay comes at the end when yours does.

Diagosed with bipolar in 1985, I'm learning to deal with it better since finding my "family" at Alcoholics Anonymous, and as of 1/3/2013, I will have one year of sobriety and more clarity than I've ever experienced in my lifetime.

You can be given an EOD (established onset of disability) prior to the application date, but for backpay or retroactive benefits, the SSA will only go back one year prior to the application date. This is what happened to me.

Good luck Queen123. Just appeal the 1st two denials if they happen. You have your best chance at winning at the ALJ level with a lawyer and good medical evidence supporting your claim. The long wait is the worse thing about the whole process.

Smile yeah I can tell my lawyer told me that an appeal alone could take up 2 5 months.. I know it will be awhile and I will probably have to take it 2 court but I am willing to go the distance to win my case and get the benefits I deserve. I would have filed years ago but I didn't have a diagnosis because fibro is so hard to diagnose. So thanx everyone for the advice and I will update when I can thanks again....

That is great Queen123. One of the group leaders here "fibroforever" got approved for fibro. You may wanna PM her if you have any specific questions. She is very helpful.
