ElvisPresley said >>> Its odd you brought this up again. My nephew had to take a drug test for McDonaldsI think a lot of businesses are doing this now. They are saying if you do drugs, you are a liability and we don't want you working for us. If I owned a company, I would pay to have my employees randomly drug tested I think. The drug abuse along with poor work performance and missed workdays will cost you a lot more than the drug testing and weeding out employees who are doing this IMO.

In 1991 I had a drug test before being hired by a large insurance company as a data entry clerk. I listed the meds I was on & provided the info on the prescribing doctor on the forms submitted with the sample for testing. No problems, I was hired.

Periodically in my 18 yrs with the company, I was picked for testing & each time I had my doc's info to prove I was legit.

Since I am fighting into my 3rd year trying to get SSDI, and haven't been able to get any other gov't support, I am more than a little piqued when it seems that those who abuse drugs & alcohol appear to get help when I can't.

That's my two cents.

I agree Catfishes24. Does not worry me personally because I don't use illegal drugs. You said you have been wrestling with the SSA 3 years trying to get approved for SSDI. Are you still waiting on a hearing at the ALJ level?

Are you saying most people are for welfare drug testing but not for SSDI testing. I am on SSDI and still, this would not bother me because I don't use illegal drugs. I am not sure if drug testing is the answer to curb abuse but surely most people have to agree if you are on welfare, you should not be using the funds to buy and use illegal drugs, that much I am sure about.

No ssdi is a insurance policy you paid for so it is your money, just like a LTD policy. Also the biggest hospital system in Michigan starting July 1st 2012 if you smoke ar chew tobacco they will not hire you. A lot of health care companies are doing it. Because you work in a health care facility they want to promote a healthy work environment . And to cut down on absentee and insurance cost. So times ar a changing no more of the same o thing.
