Thanks xceldanes. I am glad you don't have to worry about the SSDI anymore. I hope your husband's quality of life is as good as it can possibly be. I have heard people say that the golden years can be some of the best years of your life but this is true only for a minority I think. Chronic health problems often plague many people during the latter stages of life and those golden years are anything but "golden" for a lot of us. Have a terrific day xceldanes!

Thank you for your response and I am sorry to hear of your husbands condition but very happy he is off life support. I feel greedy even pursuing the case of back pay but I guess if I am able bodied to do so I should push the case and I am glad I did. I finally spoke to another rep in the office today and he was so beyond rude and nasty and kept talking over me and told me it doesnt matter what my situation is it will not speed things up unless I come in the office. He was contridicting himself left and right to what I have been told from other reps and when I tried to explain my side he either hung up or it disconnected. I was so upset! Went and showered and while I was in there he called and left a message saying he talked to his supervisor left me her name and extension and that she is going to try to get it approved for today and I should at least have the 1st portion of my SSI payment ( I am waiting for both that and SSDI back pay ). It couldn't believe after how he speaked to me that was the message. I was happy but couldn't help but break down because of how people are treated in our situations. They want us to get better and get back to work but they drag their feet and make up BS excuses. He actually told me that well what is supose to happen isn't always what is going to happen and is happening. What kills me is a month after getting benefits I got a call for SSA asking me if I would be interested in getting back to work lol. It kills me. OH yeah sure I will start sending out resumes today........ugh

@TheQuietOne, they actually called you and asked you that soon after you were approved? For most of us, even if we could get a job, we could not keep it unless our chronic heath problems stay in remission for a long time. Plus, I am now over age 50 now. I actually resisted going on disability several years prior to when I finally did have to go in disability. I was able to work an additional 2 years.

Hi

I applied for SSDI online because I too have enough work credits for ssdi. When I got my denial letter I had 2 of them one from SSI and one from SSDI.i DON'T WANT SSI..I will not qualify for it so why did they put ssi on my application.I better not get screwed out of my back pay for myself and my dependents

My back pay as of today is 22 months minus 5 for mandatory wait for SSDI

My ALJ changed my onset date to the last day I worked and 5 months prior to my application So I have not been approved yet..Do I need an acct for my 14 yr old son w/me on it too????SSA should explain all of this while we wait..no matter if we win or not...I want to waive SSI to no hold on mine that is BS.i AM calling SSA TOMORROW.i APPLIED ONLINE FOR A REASON ,Because only SSDI can not SSI

Thanks for listening

When you apply for SSDI you automatically apply for SSI. They do this to see if you qualify for benefits for the 5 month waiting period, also there are some people who do get SSDI but their SSDI benefit amount is actually lower than the max amount allowed on SSI. If this is the case then you will get both a SSDI and a SSI check monthly.

You mean to tell me that they will take the SSI retroactive amount out of the SSDI amount? This screws up all my estimates on what I would be getting. Do they take out the whole amount at once out of the SSDI retroactive? I had no idea. I hear about some people getting SSI while they are waiting for the disability but I never did, of course social security denied me and I have a hearing next month but if I would have had SSI while waiting I wouldn't have had to apply for general relief which also will be deducted. After all these deductions and my attorney's fee I wonder if anything will be left. This isn't good news for me at all.

They only deduct the SSI if you take it for the 5 month waiting period..When you first get approved you'll get a letter from your local SS office asking you to call to make a appointment to come in to see if you qualify for SSI,this is for the 5 month waiting period for SSDI and to see if you should get SSI if your SSDI benefit amount is lower than what you'd get on the max amount given for SSI.. My benefit amount was way over the SSI monthlt amount so I didn't qualify for that but could qualify for the 5 month period. My attorney told me to waive the 5 months SSI because it would just be deducted from my SSDI back pay and it would also slow down getting my back pay.

Hello

Why hasn't my Attorney asked me to waive SSI

I don't want to bother with it.Do I have to be Awared first

before I can???I don't want the mess holding up my back pay either

So should I call SSI and ask Go to my local office

Or just wait for a decision from ALJ!!!!!

Also I had a different bank when I applied online

and 800# wouldn't let me change until after the ALJ decision

so I called my local office and she changed it with no problem.

I kept my old acct open too just in case..This ALJ Establishing my onset at the end of my hearing is driving me nuts.Don't know why he would establish it 5 months prior to my application date..But I am not keeping my hopes up I never have any luck really..Thanks for everyones help!!

Did you get a letter from SS asking you to call or come in to your local office to see if you qualify for SSI?
