Heather, Did you see a pain specialist? Have you had epidurals before? Where is your pain?

Percocet makes me sick too.

april - yes i started seeing the pain doc last feb. had first injection in left si joint bc he saw that is where most of my pain was. he wasnt quite convinced it was my lumbar disc. he did the injection but i didnt get any form of relief at all. so he did 2 injections in my lumbar spine...no relief at all. he did an epidural and i was in worse pain. he did a discogram finally. that test separates men from boys! lol. its kinda a trick test that people cannot fake bc how it done. anyway, it produced symptoms close and as severe as i was experiencing. he said 2 of my disc were torn. the mri showed herniated disc but not as severe as it actually was. he told me there was no more he could do..gave me a pain script and sent me to neurosurgeon. desperate to get out of pain, i had a 2 level fusion. worse pain since then. so after many doctors apt my ortho did more pain injections in his office (this year)and diagnosed me with si joint dysfunction with widening of left si joint. i did get immediate relief when he did both of those...but only for 8 hours or so. it was a great 8 hours though! ortho sent me to another neurosurgeon last month to evaluate me for si joint fusion. i left the neuro a total wreck bc he told me that i more than likely wont qualify for surgery. there went all hope. suicide has been a daily thought since then...but i wont bc my dad just died and it would kill my mom and my family to lose me right now. might seem stupid but thats my thought process. im not afraid of dying...only of being a larger burden bc of my actions. you know how depressing pain is. when every single moment of your life is spent in pain it really gets to you. but anyway, the neuro sent me BACK to the pain clinic for 3 more shots in both sacroiliac joints. had the first of this round last week. i got immediate relief and it lasted for the rest of the day...then up in the middle of the night unable to sleep bc the pain. but it was good while it last! lol. i got again on 5/9 and then 5/23 then see the neuro again on 6/1 to hear what he says. i wouldnt care a thing about disability if i could get out of this pain. ive worked since i was 16 through thick and thin...through every diagnosis. but this si joint pain is like no pain i have ever experienced. it never goes away. just sitting here im in pain. i dont sleep bc of it. 2 years of this. im hanging on though. i wonder if my doctors are overlooking something. if you have ever had a catch in your back or your backside hip, that is what i feel 24/7. im praying and hoping that someone will find a way to fix me. i do have pain in my back but its bc my fusion hurts a lot. my actual "spine" didn't hurt that bad until my back surgery. they say it looks fine though. my worst and the excruciating pain is both of my si joints (sacroiliac joints) which are on the outside of the spine. they connect the ilium to the sacrum. mine are screwed up somehow. pain doctor says osteoarthritis (joint degeneration). i guess he saw this while he was injecting me under xray. i dont care what they say is wrong...i just want them to fix me.

I am so sorry about your condition. I hope you can see a different specialist -some are useless. I did not want to live about a year ago when my pain crippled me and I would go to the floor and scream -that lasted about 6 months until I got many epidurals -I am still scared to death that the same pain will come back -I have never been in such pain before. I would call my mom and I couldn't talk -feeling like I wanted to cut off my leg.

I would go see someone else, do you have a mayo clinic near you? That is why I am not rushing into surgery because like you it seems worse. Have you tried any pain patches?

i wish i had a mayo clinic! lol. im sorry for your pain as well. i guess thats why we all found each other..to give encouargement and relate to. there isn't any neurosurgeons in my area or close to it other than the one that i see 1.5 hours away for my si joints. im still seeing my local neuro from my back surgery. i felt very depressed after seeing the si doctor but im hoping and praying that when i follow up in 5 weeks or so that he might be more informative. we shall see. my pain doc said that we could try burning the nerves on both sides of the si joints all the way down and it could possibly give me relief...and possible for a few months. im tempted but im scared also. after my injections last week i couldn't walk bc he weekness. my hubby had to carry me inside the house and i was "Dead legged" for hours i think. im concerned that could happen. are you getting injections in your cervical spine and your lumbar spine?

do they use the dye when you are getting a epidural? Many times they miss the spot -I had some that do anything and some that help.

I rotate between the lumbar and cervical spine epidurals. I can only get one at a time and only 3 per 6 months. The last cervical epidural did help, but made me so sick. My chest was hurting and a few days later I got a really bad flu like symptom that lasted a week.

Can you travel to a new specialist?

yes, they use dye with the xray to make sure it is in the proper location. they get the spot bc i have immediate relief...just not lasting for more than 8 hours or so. there aren't anymore si specialist that my ortho is aware of. i think the closest mayo clinic is florida from what my ortho told me..and i live in louisiana. i might try having the nerves burned...i dont know. very cautious about that.

If they use that x ray machines its hard for them to miss the point. but some still do.Heather Jacksonville Fl is the only one close to you and there is one in Arizona. If you are forced to come to Jacksonville you have free stay here at my place my wife does not mind helping people in need. I live about 10 miles from the mayo clinic. Matter fact I was there last night for a bad reaction.
How can I be a doctor when I spend much of my time visiting them ?

Yeah..he definatley got the spot bc of immediate relief..but,as usual, only lasted a few hours. they did mention possibly burning those nerves like you mentioned to me. i am really considering this...but i dont know how id be able to afford it several times a year. Thank you for the offer! Seriously that is very generous of you. God bless you and your wife for that. SmileI'm hoping I won't have to go there though.

I would try the nerv burning for sure it did help me some and you only should have to get it once in a year and maybe 2 times altogether.
