I was just wondering how many of you are taking something for this and if so what you're taking. I'm on neurontin and wishing I could find something else.

Anyone find any alternative treatments?

Usually peripheral neuropathy is treated with neurontin. However, I have great success with Lyrica, also many fibro patients take suboxone which is great for those sensitive to narcotics or need to get off of them.

I really don't like how neurontin makes me feel and would love to find something else. It also isn't helping as much lately but that could be either a flare or a herxheimer's reaction. My neurologist would also like to get me off neurontin with all the other things I take like I'm currently taking risperidone.

About the only other thing I've found is pressure like wearing knee socks and gloves or arm warmers. I guess I just need to talk to my rhuemy about it when I go back.

I took Lyrica and it did help but I started gaining weight like crazy. I also take tramadol for the pain. I just started Mobic and Plaquenil. I may have to go back on the Lyrica Smile

I am taking Lyrica and have done so for a long time. It does have that horrible side effect of weight gain. But it does work great for the neuropathy. At least it does for me. When taking it I can actually feel with my fingers and toes. When I'm not taking it, they buzz, tingle, burn, hurt, you know the drill. I would definitely say it helps a whole lot. I've never been on anything else for neuropathy so I can't compare.

Now I haven't been officially diagnosed with Sjogern's yet, but I have tingling in my feet and toes and it's hard to walk any distance. I went to a foot doctor and she made a kinda make shift orthodontic thing for my feet and they work great. She also suggested Biofreeze but I found I think it's called Performance made by Biofreeze (it's new) at Walgreens for about $11. Now it's a pain relieving rub but it uses cold and it makes the tingling go away so you can sleep. The doctor don't want to give me meds cause I'm bipolar and am on a lot of meds. Hope this helps someone.
my medications:
lithium 675 mg.
lamactial 100 mg.
cymbalta 30 mg.
Klonipin 2 mg.
Plaquenil 400 mg.
Ditropan 15mg.
Evista 60.mg
Thyroid hormone .888 mcg
Predisone 10mg. (for now)
Stuff to make my mouth water 7.5 mg 4 times a day

Restoril 7.5 mg.
Klonipin 3 mg.
