I developed Shingles in mid-February. I took Acyclovir immediately after the rash developed (within 12 hours). The pain has not been my primary issue although there has certainly been pain. Itching was an issue for a couple of weeks after the rash disappeared, but it too has lessened to a manageable degree. What is bothering me is a continued systemic feeling of unwellness. It is somewhat cyclical throughout the day. I get up feeling okay and in a matter of a couple of hours, I feel extremely cold, then begin feeling somewhat nauseated and very achy with no fever. Usually, I sleep for a couple of hours and feel a little better. This has gone on for about seven weeks now. Have other people with Shingles had that same experience?

These symptoms sound similar to what I have. No energy. Chronic pain...I would sleep during the day, if I could.

I hope you are feeling some better. I have lived with chronic pain for so many years now. I have almost given up hope.

Bevo,

Did these symptoms go away? I am in a similar position. the rash is clearing up and I have finished the anti-virals but I am feeling more sick than when I first got the shingles. less pain but more general nausea and odd eye symptoms.

I hope you got better and this is a long distant memory for you.

Yes - I got diagnosed May 1, things seem to be moving along but I actually feel worse now than when I had the blisteres. Really getting tired of this...

That sounds no good. I did have ongoing nausea and unwellness after the rash cleared up but it went away within a month. Take it easy and give yourself another couple of weeks. I found it was two steps forward, one back ie feel better then worse then better then worse but it did go away.

It is a virus so no wonder you feel unwell and it is common to take a few months to get over it (esp. if you are older).

Be kind to yourself and try not to push yourself too quickly. You will get over this.

Take care.

It has been over two months since I started with Shingles...I took Valtrex for a couple of weeks and the antiviral for 5 days. While the blisters were not severe- a slight rash has continued to this day and now itches at times throughout the day. The only "unwell feeling" was brief and during the initial discovery period. I did not try the Lodocaine patches because they would have interfered with the anti-arrythmia drug that I take. Anyway - any uncomfortable symptoms seem to be diminishing(tenderness, soreness and itching). I think everyone is going to have unique symptoms and degrees of such and the time frame for them disappearing is going to be indeterminable. I am 75 and I was supposed to have a more severe reaction than I did...I feel fortunate...Good luck to all - hope everyone's condition improves soon.

I also have lingering malaise, no appetite, and nausea. I have a cast-iron stomach so to have almost continual nausea is very apparent. My shingles started on August 1 with vomiting, constant stomach pain that lasted for a week, then the outbreak on my back. I thought I had been bitten 20 times by a spider and put off going to the doctor for one week. I also had outrageous pain in my back and both legs, especially the knees. I would fall asleep and wake up one hour later crying. My doctor put me on Acyclovir and Gabopentin. The bumps have scabbed over but are still there. I'm starting to feel tingling in another area and I sure hope it isn't another outbreak. My doctor said you can get them only once but he didn't say how long once can last.

Awful to have shingles near your eye and dangerous, so I have read. Shingles is not a strong enough name for this. It sounds like jingles, a gentle word. You have to experience shingles to know how terrible it is.
