I figured that I would introduce myself since I am new to this group and to MDJunction. So here it goes:

My name is Corbin; I am a life-long Marlboro County native, I was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina on May 13, 1992.

I am a product of Marlboro County School District, having graduated from Marlboro County High School in 2010. Upon graduation from Marlboro County High School, I matriculated at Ashford University where I am currently double majoring in Psychology and Social-Criminal Justice with a Minor in Forensics. I am an aspiring Special Victims’ Prosecutor and Law Educator. I hope to one day obtain a Judgeship within the Fourth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina.

Upon completion of my undergraduate studies, I will be attending the University of South Carolina where I will enroll in the dual degree program for Law and Social Work. After having the Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) and Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) conferred upon me, I will seek admissions to the North and South Carolina Bar. I plan to further my education to obtain a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice and Criminology (MA) and Master of Laws (LLM).

I became a victim-survivor of sexual assault at the age of 15, per the hands of my former band teacher. On November 15, 2010 I received my day in court and the justice that I deserved. My offender was sentenced to 10 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections (he must serve at least 85% of this sentence). Upon his release he will be required to register as a sex offender, and will be subject to electronic monitoring for life. I have since begun educating the public about the effects of sexual assault and the profound repercussions associated with the violent crime. I hope that through sharing my story and educating the public about the profound effects of the crime, someone, somewhere is touched in a positive way.

I am the Founding Director of a Nonprofit Crisis Center, dedicated to the prevention of suicide, and assisting individuals and families affected by crime and trauma. In addition to serving as the Founding Director, I serve as the Victim Advocate, and President of the Board of Directors. I have been able to develop effective relationship with other nonprofit organizations and in doing so I have been successful in disseminating message about crime victimization, male sexual assault, and other violent crimes at the grassroots level.

I am a Victim Service Provider for the State of South Carolina; a Victim-Survivor Impact Consultant for the United State Department of Justice: Office of Justice Programs; a Professional Support Group Facilitator; Victim Service Provider Educator; Crisis Intervention Specialist; and Violence/Victimization Consultant.

In my spare time, I enjoy going to the movies, spending time with friends and family, fishing, and reading. I am single and reside in Wallace, South Carolina.
