Hi Everyone, I was reading a Dr. Phil book and he said that an abuse survivor needs to find closure with the abuser. He meentioned writing a letter to the abuser. You don't have to send it if you don't want. He also said you could talk to the abuser, if it was safe.

Have any of you tried to get closure with the abuser? I tried talking to one of the abusers (he's also my X- husband). It didn't turn ot very well. He didn't listen and surely didn't care what he had done to me.

Any suggestions on how to get closure without having to be around the abuser?

Thanks, Your friend, Chris

I tried, I also tried speaking to dad about it all...first he said that it was all my imagination, then after a while he said that I have to forgive him for my good, after all God had forgiven him.

That is what I have done towards my closure I guess.....

Last summer I even went to his wedding, he got remarried, it was, I'm not sure, just glad it's over with! He is going to be 82 in May, and I think she is like 90something, so, it was different, to say the least.

One must repent for God to forgive them, which would include apologizing to the victim. Maybe he just decided that God SHOULD forgive him.

I sometimes dream the closure part where I'm telling how it made me feel and how hurt I was that he would do that to me, someone he said he loved and wanted to spend the rest of his life with. I would never try to talk to the person because I know he wouldn't care, and that would make it worse for me.

I did hear that writing a letter or various letters until you get it all out and then burn them helps. Definately don't send them. Maybe we need a closure letter forum here, or in the diary page.

mommy I did the letter writing thing with my therapist. It has worked...a little. But I still carry the anger,,,,AND all the same HATE!!! I am not a christian, but there are the majority who have found comfort with their religion. Try the letter writing, how ever I now regret NOT sending them to my parents while they were still alive.....

i would like to get some kind of closure. but, when my abuser left my home that day, he said he would be back to finish. which makes it that much harder and scarier..... not sure i don't think the letter is a bad idea also on one of dr.phil's shows he said to write down there name and everything they did to you and why you where mad and either burn it or put it in a ballon and watch it go into the sky until you can't see it anymore

Love,

Kylie
