Neuroscientist David Eagleman has a theory that SPD is related to Synesthesia. Having SPD myself as well as very strong Synesthesia, I wonder about this. Synesthesia is of course harmless (other than most people don't have it) and really a wonderful thing if you ask me. In fact it always helped me remember things and makes sense stuff that was hard already due to the SPD. I love my synesthesia, so I was wondering if anyone else with SPD has it? If you're not sure, consider taking the synesthesia battery (http://synesthete.org/) where David Eagleman is trying to find the gene linked to synesthesia (and seeing if it's related to the Autism Spectrum).

I might, not too sure. The quiz said I might though, just from checking 2 boxes. And checking those were iffy because I do feel a sense of touch when I smell things. But, it is very hard to think about and articulate what goes on with me with that. Maybe now that I am thinking more about it I will be able to think about it as it happens and know a bit better. I definitely don't relate things to a color. I did as a kid, and when I spoke about it people told me I was crazy enough times I edited that way of thinking. I have edited alot of my ways and thinking. Since learning of SPD I have been trying to just go with instincts again. But, it was never all the time as a kid, but I could think of it that way if I wanted to easily. I just didn't because it made no logical sense. And maybe it wasn't the same thing, or maybe it is just very low on the scale. I don't know if what it means to have it means all the time ever since you can remember though, and cant change it. If so, it's not me. I hope that made some sense haha...

I have read people on the autism spectrum can relate to this, as well as some people with OCD(not the smell and touch stuff though).

My letters and numbers are colored. So I see letters in a particular color. Also numbers have distinct personalities. Most sound is color to me also, and I've always been able to see music. Smells also have colors. Often tastes even have colors. The way I picture time and days of the week is an interesting pattern, not the way I was taught at school. Mostly everything just becomes colors. Certain words and names, have tastes, but not all of them. For some reason the name Lindsey always makes me think of maple syrup. And there were a couple others too. There are other areas of synesthesia for me too, but I forget at the moment. It's always there playing around in the background, but I don't think about it too often. Often it comes up when I least expect it. I love Synesthesia, it's really cool and I remember things very differently than those around me.

That IS cool! So curious how that would be. Like an extra reality it sounds like!

I can relate to the names and words having tastes sometimes. Nothing more though from since a kid. Maybe it was just a strong sensory thing hmm. Oh well!

Thanks for sharing more! Smile
