Unfortunately I am an adult with serious SPD who was never helped as a child and as a result I am now seriously ill with a chronic eating disorder, OCD, anxiety amongst other issues.

There doesn't appear to be any information or help out there for individuals with SPD who have never been helped and have grown up terrified of food. I have been labelled Anorexic and basically dumped by the Health Industry.

Does anybody no of anything that might help? I can't eat at all, I'm terrified of having food inside me, I have to live off 3 Elemental 028 drinks per day.

I want desperately to just eat and be normal but I don't know what to do or where to turn.

Hi! I too am an adult with SPD never treated only recently diagnosed... I have anxiety, as well as eating issues...

Are there any foods you can eat? I have throughout the years been able to find out which foods work for me and which don't and fortunately have a fairly understanding husband... (He does get annoyed though lol)

My first suggestion is that you try to find yourself an occupational therapist who works with adults! They should be able to show you techniques to desensitize so that you can eat... What exactly about the foods are the problems? For me texture, smell, shape, color, brand, size can all be an issue for me...

If you have trouble finding an occupation therapist you should be able to ask your doctor for a referral! Good luck and if you have any issues feel free to ask!

BTW I couldn't help notice you are on the EDS board as well... the group leader GimpyZebra also has EDS and SPD... I know she is far more informed about both conditions than I am due to having an earlier diagnosis of both conditions! She is really friendly and I'm sure she would answer any questions you have also!

hi,

i am an adult with spd. i was diagnosied about 2 years ago. i also have an eating disorder. i highly recommend going to an occuaptional therapist too. i ended up going to a place that usually deals with children. i started off going to a place that took adults but then the figured out that i had spd they consulted with a place 4 kids because most ot that specialize in sdp work with kids. they wanted to help me so they took me on as a client. it did help alot. good luck.
