I see you edited your post. Don't be shy to write here hun. I have been waiting til someone else would have the same issue. I do the same. I also scratch my scalp til it bleeds and have hit myself in the head. I used this method because it is well hidden by my hair. If you want to talk but don't want everyone reading then feel free to send me a message. I am hear to listen or talk or both. Hugs!!

I am bulimic and at times my health was bad and I lost hair. I also naturally lose hair when I stress. You can imagine that mixed with pulling it out (in huge locks) people noticed soon. I am here.

Me too. Also I have lost my ability to use my other security blankets like the purging and my cutting. My hubby would probably have me go in somewhere if I cut and although he does hate the purging it is more an issue because losing salt from my body will mess with my meds and can kill me. I used to bite my knee or punch things then I started scratching. I enjoyed it so much and it was so well hidden that I started pulling hair out. Not too long ago my husband and I had fussed. I got very upset and just started hitting myself. The next day I had huge knots all over. All of this makes it difficult brush your hair and even sleep. I haven't spoke to anyone here who has had this exact problem. I feel better knowing I am not alone but wish I was so you would have to fight it.

I think we all have our own different 'quirks' with this thing. Which meds are messed with by losing salt? Never heard of that one before! I used to bang my fists against a carpeted cement floor. I haven't done that recently, having 4 little ones in the house (which means 8 little eyeballs) I wouldn't ever want them to see me doing that kind of thing....it keeps me in check.

The medicine is Lithium. Originally there was a spring or river that people thought had healing powers. A doc found out it was in the salt in the water which is where lithium comes from. Since it is from the salt you can't let your levels change suddenly in either direction. Somehow it kind of poisons you in a way. Liver damage is possibly too. I don't have kids and my hubby works out of town. I have a very hard time not abusing my opportunity filled days.

morning guys,

lithum has been used since the early 1800's and yes it was found in a healing river which helped people with everything from bowel problems to loss of energy and of coarse the medically imbalanced.

it is a very common medication these days for mental illness but it also has side effects as pixi stated.

weight gain.... liver damage... blood poisining (rare but also stated as a possible side effect) this is why those put on it have to endure a blood test every 3 months to ensure all is well with their organs.

people on lithium are also encouraged to up their daily salt intake via salt and pepper cooking with salt and of coarse patato chips if they seem lathargic.

hope i have helped also in this medication check pro and cons.

it is hard with kids and wanting to self harm i also have 2 kids and mine are 8 and 5 its a lot harder to hide certain lapses in judgement with them around or in our words but it all helps us stay stronger in the end.

BIG HUGS

Storm
