but it pertains here becuase I started self injuring as a way to punish myself. Learning that it's not my fault has been a long, hard road, and I'm not at the end yet, but I'm taking it one day at a time.

LITTLE GIRL

There's a good little girl:

Smile and swallow all your tears,

Sing away your childish fears.

Hold your head high and ignore all their jeers,

Now there's a good little girl!

Make us proud, little girl:

Recite those verses at top speed,

Always the Pastor's voice you must heed.

And then you will be an example indeed;

Make us proud, little girl!

Don't talk back, little girl:

Why must you always insist on a fight?

I am your mother, so I'm in the right.

Just wait 'til your father gets home tonight!

Don't talk back, little girl!

Do as I say, little girl!

Don't question authority, you're in the wrong!

You shouldn't be listening to that type of song!

Obey your parents, if you want to live long!

You do as I say, little girl!

Hold still now, little girl:

Be quiet now, and don't you fret,

If I tell your parents, they will be upset.

And we know how angry your mother can get:

So hold still now, little girl!

It wasn't your fault, little girl:

You followed the lessons that you were taught,

It was only acceptance and love that you sought.

You fell for the lie, in the web you were caught:

But it wasn't your fault, little girl.

Wow! That is amazing. The first line caught my attention (that's hard to do) and I'm nearly in tears.

Yeah, I agree. I relate very much. When you can't control what others do you control the things you can. If you ever need to talk feel free to pM me. Welcome.

Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel that you've been down the same road...
And I just can't keep living this way
So starting today, I'm breaking out of this cage
I'm standing up, Imma face my demons
I'm manning up, Imma hold my ground
I've had enough, now I'm so fed up
Time to put my life back together right now" Eminem Not Afraid

Thanks everyone...as to getting it published, I submitted one of my poems to Chicken Soup once...never heard back Tongue

I had a poem published in a book when I was in the 6th grade, but it was just a cute fun one for school about the moon. I've never published anything serious.
